In the Baltimore Sun, it mentioned that we are among the teams who are inquiring about the services of Washington's unrestricted free agent, Juan Dixon. They did not tender his option on his contract.
I, for one, like the guy. I watched him when he was a Maryland Terrapin, and I still see a good player when I see him now. He's another combo guard (like we needed another one), but it seems like Ainge is going after guys who can play both backcourt positions--handling the ball as well as acting as scoring guards. He's got a pretty athletic body, got good quickness and ball handling skills. He's got a solid midrange game, but not so much a three point game. He's a slasher who plays better when he's roaming free. And he can make the right passes when he's slashing into the paint. Just a solid backcourt player, ala Delonte West--except more athleticism and quickness, with less of a three point shot.
I'm seeing that Ainge is not going to go after a true PG, but rather go after combo guards to fill our backcourt. Rather than having a set up PG like Nash and Kidd, he's assembling a team who won't revolve around the PG, but instead make use of the 5 players on the court and have them play smart basketball and make it their duty to pass and share the basketball and make their open shots. In this type of offense, Tony Allen, Delonte West, and Juan Dixon can all play the Point position.
IMO, that's why we dropped out of the Jasikevicius sweepstakes, even though it seemed like we were the leading candidates. We could have had him locked up, but instead, Ainge went with Scalabrine. That's why all of a sudden, you're hearing all these teams popping up as potential Jasikevicius suitors.
Juan Dixon won't be a difference maker, or an impact player, but he will add a solid backcourt player to our roster who can play the Point in the offense we will be running. He'll play similarly to Delonte, or vice versa.
