Lot of good names on that list, but we don't have much to spend. For a vet big man, maybe Bo Outlaw. He'll come cheap and he's a hard working veteran who plays hard and is a good example for young players to emulate.

This will not be the year to break the bank to get a high profile free agent. Though, I would like to bring in a veteran that will help the rookies.

I agree RR. That's why I don't think we'll go heavily after Stromile Swift, Bobby Simmons, Tyson Chandler, SAR, Eddie Curry, Donyell Marshall, Cutino Mobely, etc.

We're probably looking to get a big man and a PG with our MLE, so none of those guys I've listed will come here.

And if Jasikevicius comes to Boston, we can only offer a big man the same amount we offered Googs last summer, which is about a million.

Most of the free agents have a big "if" next to their names. Whether the players are too old, too expensive or have not even scratched the surface of their potential and have given no indication they will. Saras I would like. Walker, hard to say.

A little bit of both. I think its probably the most realistic scenario going right now, although there are potentially better scenarios out there. Going after Dickau would be a good plan.

Just to expound on that, I don't see the C's making a huge splash in this years fa crop unless we unload either Raef or Blount's contract. Even then Im not sure if this year would make a whole lot of sense considering the state of our young guys, vets, etc. Next year maybe. Anyhow that pretty much rules out the likes of going after the Ray Allens, Ilgauskis, restricted FA's like Chandler, Curry, Dalembert, etc.

*I dont see Ainge trading Pierce this offseason although it could happen.. That would obviously change everything.

There are still plenty of good players that will be had for close to the midlevel that I think would fit into the C's system. Considering I think Ainge will most likely be targetting a pg and pf/c, that leaves an unrestricted/restricted group of guys I like Dickau(U), Daniels(U). Knight(U). Lue(U), DA(U) if you want to drop off even further for pg's. And then you have REggie Evans(R), Walker(U+), Gadzuric(R), Donyell Marshall(U), Songaila(R) etc.. Plus players overseas like Sarunas.

In conclusion, the best of that crop is probably Dickau, whom we might be stretching to for the midlevel. If we cant get him, the next best scenario is Sarunas. I'm not a cap guy, but that leaves us the midlevel to spend on a PF I believe, and we can overspend on someone like Walker because we hold his bird rights. I could be way off though. And he may hold more trade value down the line over anyone on that list. Marshall, Gadz, Evans, and Songaila are all prime options as well though. Best case? GEtting Dickau and Marshall. Dreaming though.. Most realistic? Sarunis and Walker.

Just read on the internet that we have offered Dickau a contract. He's apparently Ainge's top priority.

Now, I don't know if this is true or not, but Dickau does not seem to be the type of veteran PG Ainge thinks highly of. From the games I've seen of him, he did not strike me as a guy who is much better than Banks in terms of being able to set people up. But this is back when he was with ATL. I don't know how much he's improved from then. He's fast and can shoot the ball. If Ainge is interested in him, I guess their plan is to mold him into a PG who can help move the ball around while being able to hit the open shots when he's open.

Maybe Dickau's a contingent plan in case Jasikevicius doesn't come to Boston.

i would hate to get Dickau, he's your prototypical average guy. I would even say below average, offensive creativity = 0. There have to better PG available, even in Europe you can find lots of points that are better. Hell, i think that OG is already a better point than Dickau, and i haven't even seen him play. Dickau should only be used if every other PG on the roster is injured or in foul trouble. You might as wel let Davis or Allen run the point, they wouldn't be any different.

The only reason he's playing in the NBA is because he played college ball in the US, if he grew up in Europe, no scout would take a second look at the guy. Have i mentioned that i hate Dickau?

on a side note: Ray Allen is supposed to resign with SEA, 80 million over 5 years with an extra 5 mill in incentives. That's a lot of money!

Not that he was on our radar screen, but this surely has an impact on the rest of the FA market.
