They did a toxicology test on Reggie after his death and he was clean of drugs. His problem was strictly his heart condition.
Len just made one very bad choice, while celebrating the draft.

I think after he died an article came up in a local paper claiming that Reggie had a coke problem.

You can't just make up lies about a dude. The New York Times figured hat out the hard way. They probably would say they were just reporting a "rumor" and cited an "anonymous source". The anonymous source is the writer and nobody wants to testify who the source is cause they don't want to get caught making up the news.
