Stephen A. Smith gives us top marks (along with Indiana).
Getting Gerald Green and Ryan Gomes should put us at the top of the list of draft day winners. Green was supposed to be a top 5 pick, but slid to 18. Ryan Gomes was talked about being a possible first rounder, most likely a high second rounder, but we nabbed him at 50. And our last pick (53) was O'rien, who seems like a decent PG prospect (6'5" PG with athleticism). But even without him, getting Green and Gomes adds to our already blossoming talent pool.
Gerald Green is a future starting SG (or possibly SF) and Gomes is a potentially productive backup PF/SF who can provide us with solid bench scoring from the 4 spot.
This draft was a huge one for us. In some ways, it rivals last year's draft because Green could be a star like Jefferson and Gomes' role may be bigger than the role Allen and Delonte could provide for us.
Congratulations Ainge for being a true Draft Guru.

I agree that this was an A graded draft. Orione Green must have something in him that Danny liked seeing he was nowhere on the draft radar (I don't think).

Think I heard that they had him in last week, and he shut Jack down. He started off at Florida.

that is terrific to hear but still don't see him making the team after training camp. let him season in europe. we need vets as doc said and i fully expect we get a vet pg. personally i hope for antonio daniels, but i think that they go for older and more willing to be a back up kind of player

Or they could send Greene to the NBDL to develop during his first two years. The new CBA even allows us to send an assistant coach to monitor his progress.

This team could bring Eric Williams back.

I think the NBA finally addressed a key issue w/ the league, which is development. The NDBL, which is somewhat like another one of their products or ventures, could actually be a positive. For the longest time, the college system was the "NDBL" and then players started to go to college 1-2 years, declare or even skip college all together. A great move for the league.

It will even get better when each NBA team has their own NBDL team. I think the league has taken a step in the right direction. I just don't like having to share a team with another NBA team, this might make development odd.

Perhaps if the NBA folded a few franchises, then the NDBL would have 1 team per NBA team. I think this concept of the NDBL is still in its infancy stage.

I think the idea of having 30 teams in the NBDL is unrealistic.

I think the idea of having 30 teams in the NBDL is unrealistic. This is true Ferbo... Just a longterm wish I guess. One day it might come to be.

i support c17's opinion. in europe all teams have their "farm" teams where they develop their young talents. fran vasquez was in such a team a year ago and now he was a lottery pick. i think it would do wonders for the league. sure it can't be such a long season and should definitely have less traveling but the idea is really good

www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1029#18: Boston Celtics: A+
Gerald Green, SG, Gulf Shores Academy (#18) Ryan Gomes, SF, Providence (#50) Orien Greene, PG, Lafayette (#53)
Some of the worst teams in the East just made sure that they will be much worse than the Boston Celtics for years to come. The Celtics somehow got Gerald Green to fall right into their laps at 18, and will now use their experience in developing high school talent to mold him into a star player with a chip on his shoulder to go and punish those that passed on him night in and night out. Green really couldn’t have found himself in a better situation, he’ll be playing for a young, but successful organization with a clear direction and vision, and a stable front office. If that wasn’t enough, the Celtics may have made two of the best picks in the 2nd round as well, nabbing one college superstar in Ryan Gomes who is smart, fundamentally sound and really knows how to play the game; and another stud with a huge upside in the athletic 6-5 pure PG and shut down defender Orien Greene. Greene was never even mentioned as a draft prospect by anyone outside of DraftExpress, but will still almost certainly make the roster and has a great chance of being a steal for the Celtics in the 2nd round.

www.nbadraft.net/2005draftgrades001.aspSome guys work harder than everyone else, and some guys are just incredibly lucky. Apparently Danny Ainge has both things working. The Celtics had a dream draft with a player who can come in and contribute right away that fall all the way to the 50th pick in Gomes. Plus they landed a prospect with as much upside as anyone in the entire draft at 18 in Gerald Green. To think there was one internet report that the Celtics were prepared to give away their franchise player (Paul Pierce to acquire the 3rd pick to select Green) and he slides all the way to their pick at 18! Orien Greene is a very talented kid from Florida who has a striking resemblance (face and game) to Tracy McGrady. The only knock you can really make is that all three picks are wings, and the Celtics already have a solid group of perimeter players in place. But that's nitpicking, the Celtics had a tremendous draft. Ainge's four leaf clover was working today.
