Damn, just the 3rd pick for Pierce? No extra salary? I wonder if Portland can take it on. It's not the best deal anyways. Although worse trades have been made I suppose. It gives us a chance to get Felton anyways. A trade similar to the Stackhouse/Rip trade would be fine with me. Maybe this is just it and we don't know it. I say its a bad idea myself to just get the #3 with nothing else back like even a good veteran pickup. A 3 way trade may come in handy here.

I don't think Portland can take on the salary, but I could be wrong if they have enough expiring contracts. The rumor I read was the #3 pick and Van Excel (whose final year of a $12+ million salary is a team option for 2005-06). The appeal apparently would be that Boston could decide not excercise the option and thus get immediate cap relief (Pierce will make over $13 million next year).
I have not followed College ball closely enough to know if a player we get at #3 would be worth Paul Pierce, but if we can add a free agent signing on top of that (Michael Redd?) I can see where the deal would be tempting for Ainge.

That would give us an opportunity to go after a Tyson Chandler, Sammy Dalembert, Joe Johnson, Bobby Simmons, Michael Redd, and etc.

Thats true also. BUT, the question is - will any of these FA's sign with us? Dalembert wouldn't be as much as Pierce's contract. I wouldn't mind Bobby Simmons if Joe Johnson didn't return here. Gives us a decent sf anyways. Is Dunleavy Jr a free agent? Maybe he is.

I know PP is better than those players but I'm just stating why the celtics would even remotely think about this move. They'll be in position to get a very good draft prospect and a opportunity to fill a spot on the starting unit with the cap space.
You essentially get two starters for 1 All-star.
Are the celtics receiving to little in this trade? Of course they are but you really think anyone is going to give us an all-star in return for Pierce? I don't think so.
Besides, 1 player does not win championship unless you're name is Shaq or Duncan. Other than that, teams win games for you not individual players.

And Shaq didn't even win this yr. I am for trading Pierce. I don't know about some of you.

Shaq didn't win a title this year, partly because Wade got hurt (which was why alot of teams passed over him in the draft), but mostly because he is lazy. Shaq is a unique physical speciment. Imagine if he lifted weights? Imagine if he did any off-season workouts? He still dominates the game, but he would dominate it more "if he was hungry."

Yea, if he was hungry, hed get 35 and 20 probably. But don't blame that loss on Wade being out. He was there most of that series besides 1 game. Pistons deserve it. GO PISTONS!

I'd trade Paul for the third pick and Van Exel in a heartbeat. Then trade down a few spots and get future picks. I don't think the Celts can win with Paul (or Antoine for that matter). You need an MVP type player (or 2 or 3) to win a championship. If you don't have one you go the Pistons/Patriots route and get a ton of excellent players with awesome chemistry (and maybe a defensive player of the year type). It appears we're headed the Pistons route, and I don't think Paul Pierce fits in there. I don't think he's a hungry leader. I got tired of watching him and Antoine get killed every playoffs. This team should get another high energy high performance big man like Ike Diogo and start a bad boys defensive thing with Perk. You need a good smart point guard with that. Since Chris Paul was overhyped and got Wake Forest nowhere in college I'd go with Derron Williams or Felton with a high pick. But only if they can't get that Lithuanian Sarunus. Then sign a sg like Redd or just hold onto the money and bide our time since the team is so young. Draft two sgs in the 2nd round and let them fight it out. Maybe Luther Head and Amir Johnson. Give valuable minutes to Tony A and Delonte. And forget all about Pierce.
