We are sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place. At 18, we don't have a pick high enough to go after the player we really want, and not low enough to take players with lower ceilings who are safer picks. All we can look to do is hope a high pick falls to us or a high potential player is available for us to take.
For instance, a guy like Sean May will probably go much higher than 18. But in the event that he falls out of the lottery, he'll be swallowed up shortly after that, probably only a few picks before us. Same thing with Martel Webster--could fall but not far enough for us to take. On the other end, our pick is too high to take a player like Brandon Bass, who could be a late first rounder but most likely a second round pick. Bass is a good looking big man prospect, but he's got question marks, so the 18th may be a stretch.
I wonder if Ainge is contemplating moving up or down in the draft to solve this dilemma? He could get a lower pick and a player in exchange for the 18th, or he could move the 18th and a player like Banks (for instance) and move up higher in the draft.

I say we move up by trading MBlount or MBanks. If the right pick is there - and only if...

I read that the Warriors could have guaranteed a top 10 pick to Channing Frye (they have the 9th pick). They are looking for a talented big man and feel that Frye can be that guy for them.
Wonder if they'd do a Blount and Banks trade for their 9th pick and Derek Fisher? Considering that Blount is just as talented as Frye (they have similar games), but is a lot more experienced and ready to contribute (plus his 17 foot jumper is a plus). We'd do the Banks for Fisher trade just to entice them to give us the 9th pick.
What we are in it for is the 9th overall pick to add to our 18th pick. In this senario, we can either hold onto both picks or package both picks to get a higher one.

I may be in the minority but i'm in favor of Danny acquiring another mid - late first rounder. Vecsey was saying Memphis is looking to sell the 19th. I think it's a great draft and we could score big with another quality underclassman pick - up or an overall project with high upside

Memphis would like to give up the 19th pick, which is just after our own pick at 18. That gives us 2 mid round picks, which just adds to our dilemma. Last year, in the picks between 15 and 20, guys like Josh Smith, Jr Smith, and Jameer Nelson were taken. In the late first round there were guys like Delonte, Allen, Beno Udrih, and Sasha Vujajic. In 2003, the mid first round produced guys like Reece Gaines, Troy Bell, Zarko Cabarkapa, Dahntay Jones, and David West. The late frist round had guys like Perkins, Josh Howard, Leandro Barbosa, and Brian Cook.
Overall, the late first round guys (21 - 30) had more impact on their teams than the guys picked between 15 - 20). This draft is pretty stocked with proven college players who'll be available in the mid to late first round, so we may stand a good chance at getting some of them with the 18th and 19th (if we pick it up from Memphis).

I say these are all good ideas tradewise. I like Blount and Banks for Fisher and the 9th. It matches salarywise too I think. Danny is also looking for that pg that can start where banks and west will be working to beat out of the starting slot. And about trading the 18th to go lower, that would be good I think. Its always seemed most players in that 15-21 range didn't make it as big. The knicks had 3 picks in 1996 all in that area. 18,19 and 21. All of them were John Wallace, Walter McCarty and Dontae Jones. I think the late way is good plus they can add someone onto the 18th that the team doesn't want and get the 25th and lets say someone else more than Blount or Banks.

That Knicks draft sounds like our 2001 draft w/ Brown, Johnson, and Forte. Forte I really thought would pan out. I was wrong w/ him.

I thought so too (and so did Red Auerbach). Actually, Forte had the talent but just not the mindset. His second summer league was fantastic--he was attacking and hitting his midrange and long jumpers. If he hadn't been a headcase, he could have been one of our main contributors right now.

I love the thought of blount and banks for fish and the 9th pick. That could give us a chance at Felton. Wouldn't it be great to nab him? Then we could possibly package the 18th for a lower pick like derren said.

Forte is in the NBDL. Maybe he will be back in the nba soon. Anyways, back to that fisher 9th pick trade, if it can get Felton, then I am for Banks going. I wish Danny came to boards like this just to read this stuff so maybe it would give him more ideas. This trades too good to pass up. Your 3 pg's would be West, Felton and Fisher. Wow not bad after all.

Then we could possibly package the 18th for a lower pick like derren said. that trade makes absolutely no sense for the Warriors. Yes, they get rid of Fischer contract but they add someone who has the same contract and is more useless than Fischer. You want a lottery pick for Banks? Sorry, but a back-up PG who hasn't played more than 15 minutes for a season won't get you a pick that high. Not to mention Banks will be playing behind Baron Davis i.e. Banks won't even see 10 minutes per game. Two bench players for a lottery pick? Its not going to happen.
