Key Matchups
vs
Kendrick Perkins PPG 6.8 | RPG 5.7 | BPG 1.2
Eddy Curry PPG 14.2 | RPG 5.2 | BPG 0.5
Perk versus Eddy Curry is going to be a key matchup. Perk has had big games in the past against the Knicks and hopefully he will come through again in this game on both ends of the floor.
vs
Kevin Garnett PPG 19.3 | RPG 9.7 | BPG 1.5
Zach Randolph PPG 16.9 | RPG 10.1 | BPG 0.2
Randolph has been playing well for the Knicks. It will be a challenge for KG to try to stop him while making him work on the defensive end.
Keys to the Game
Close Down the Middle It will be up to Perk and KG to defend the basket. The Knicks will try to get to the hoop with their big men as well as their guards. Keeping them out of the paint and off the boards will be a key to winning this game.
Energy and Hustle The Celtics need to come out with energy and play for 48 minutes. Against the Sixers, it wasn't until Powe came in and gave them a shot of energy that they finally took over the game. The Celtics can't depend on being able to turn it on at the end every game and need to play with energy from the beginning.
Rebound This goes along with hustle and energy. Much of rebounding is effort and desire. The Celtics were getting outrebounded by a large margin before Powe came in and started grabbing rebounds. They Celtics need to put effort into rebounding and not allow the Knicks to beat them on the boards.
Ball Movement When the Celtics move the ball, they get easy shots and have the ability to take over games. When they start walking the ball up and try to go one on one too much they struggle offensively.
Game Notes
In their last meeting, the Celtics embarrassed the Knicks 104-59. They are going to be looking for pay back. Expect the Knicks to come out strong looking to avenge the big loss from November.
They have been playing very well and have won 4 of their last 3 games including wins over Detroit (an 89-65 blowout), Washington, New Jersey and the Heat. They have momentum and confidence coming into this game and the Celtics need to be ready for that.
The Knicks will also have the crowd behind them. The Knicks have used the zone against the Celtics in the past with some success and the Celtics have to be ready to beat the defense without getting rattled by it.
Rondo practiced on Sunday and is hoping to play in this game but they are leaving it as a game time decision. The Celtics will have an easier time if Rondo plays at 100%. If he is still limited by the injuries, he is better off sitting out this game.
