We've turned this thread from get Redick into analyze Rondo. LOL! I dont know much about Sparks, but I will do some homework and see if I can find some highlights and stuff, but Rondo was impressive with his quickness and ability to slash and score.

Case in point (thanks RoadRunner); in the slow down style of Tubby Smith's offense at Kentucky, an average joe like Patrick Sparks (who was a very poor man's version of Delonte West) was made to look like the better player. Tubby's half court offense made Sparks look like the real star of the team. Rondo was definitely no showcased well.
I sure hope we can start implementing some pick and roll plays. We still do not have guys setting good picks. Make a concerted effort to watch this next time you catch a game. Count how many times our guys set good picks vs. the amount of times its just wasted motion. You'd be surprised to see how poorly we execute such a simple play. Rondo could do wonders with a good hard pick. It'll set up a bunch of options for him to choose from.

After watching many clips of Sparks and Rondo, as well as, checking out stats and reading accomplishments....Rajon Rondo is definitely the better player. He is the more complete player. He did it all Steals, Rebounds, Assists, and over 11ppg. Sparks was a way better shooter who could shoot DEEP! And in peoples faces. He also had a nice passing game and was an outstanding freethrow shooter. Rondo, though, was better and more athletic.

Kinda off topic, but:
If Tywon Lawson says in school for next year, I definitely think that we can pick him up in the late first round. The Kid is a beast the incoming guys will push him back kinda like Noah, Reyshawn Terry andGlen Davis this year. Lawson is as fast as anyone I have seen and is definitely a great player. I know he will probably enter the draft for 2008, and even if he doesn't he will be one of the top pgs chosen in 2009.
I go to a lot of UNC games so I think he compares very well to Felton.

Funny you mention that because I have felt that Tywon Lawson is an exact replica of Raymond Felton--from body type to the way they dribble; everything is Raymond Felton. I think Felton is better though.
I don't think I'd use a late first round pick on him, though if he happens to slide in the second, I'd gobble him up.

Going into the 2008 draft I think Lawson is the 3rd best PG behind Rose and Augustin. Lawson and Collison are the same to me atleast.
Collison is taller and better defensively, were as Lawson is bigger and stronger.
There is a reason why Lawson was regarded as the best PG in the 2007 freshman class ahead of Augustin Conley and Crittenton.

Looks like Lawson may get a Triple double tonight, he has 12pts 6rebs and 2assists with 5 mins to go before the half.

Augustine is one of my favorite college PG's (could be the next Steve Nash). Derrick Rose hasn't lived up to his reputation, and I"m wondering if he's really that good. I'd rank Lawson above him, if we're taking polls right now. Darren Collison is also a PG I wouldn't mind on our team.
But I'd rank OJ Mayo as the top of the PG's in college. He may not be a PG in some people's mind, but he is in my mind.

All though they are good ball handlers they shoot far more than they distribute.

Gordon (for those who aren't familiar with college ball, we're talking about Eric Gordon from Indiana, and not Ben Gordon with the Bulls) is certainly a Monta Ellis/Randy Foye type of combo guard, and I do have a liking to these types of players to a big extent. I'm high on Gordon, but yes, he's no PG.
Mayo, on the other hand, I would argue is a PG. Though many perceive him as a Gilbert Arenas type of offensive minded PG, I assure that OJ is quite versatile. Of course, he can be offensive minded--and he's quite the offensive player. But his strengths are also as a ball distributor. He's got a very good idea of how to pass the ball, and from what I"m seeing, he's willing to share the ball with his teammates. There have been games where he's shot the ball a whole lot more than his teammates, but I think its to do with him being the most talented scorer on the team and is the only one who can create his own shots. When the games are tight (and the Trojans haven't been winning a whole lot) and points are hard to come by, talented offensive players who can create scoring opportunities better than anyone else on the team will undoubtedly take more shots.
But he is so darn talented and gifted, that its too hard for me to pass him up as the top rated PG.

Since this si the official talk about anything besides the topic thread...is Rondo more a slow down walk it up guard or a push the ball uptempo guard. I only ask, because this dude tried to tell me some bull that I know to be true but I want your opinions to back me up.

Rondo is undoubtedly, an uptempo PG. Get him in the open court with guys who know how to move without the ball and get open, and youl'll see Rondo shine. Surround Rondo with guys like Shawn Marion and you'll see some amazing stuff.

Precisely! Just having a convo with another C's fan and apparently he claims that one of Rondos faults so far this season is that he tends to walk the ball up the court and that he needs to push it more. I said he pushes the ball into the teeth of the defense and if he has any fault its not looking for his shot once he gets there. However, I added that as of late he has been looking more to create for himself as well while setting up the post for KG and P2. According to his statements after the Bucks game he confirmed this to be true. Thx Derren!

Well, I do agree that Rondo has been walking it up. But its not only him--most of the team walks it up nowadays. We've become a halfcourt team, for the most part.
But if you are talking about Rondo's true skin, he's an uptempo PG.
And yes, you are right. Rondo is starting to create for himself, while still getting a good amount of assists. I don't believe it, but Rondo's jumper is not looking too shabby.

What!! Is anybody watching the same C's games I am!? There is no "walking up"! Rondo pushes the tempo everytime and House actually does as well. For the most part teams like Toronto have been trying to trap the backcourt and force the ball out of our PG's hands. We usually end up breaking halfcourt in 5 seconds or less and then we may run a set inot the post. I am confused now. Weird.
