Take a look at NBADraft.net Boone is off the list for the 2005 draft. Gay, and Charlie V were never on the 2005 board, but slated for the 2006 board. Actually, I remember Charlie and Boone being on the 2005 mock draft at one point. It doesn't surprise me that Josh Boone was taken off this year's mock. It's not a sure thing that he will leave UCONN this year. When he starts playing well again, you'll see his name pop back up on the mocks. I actually think Charlie will leave before him. Just seems like Boone is more interested in winning an NCAA championship than Villanueva is. Rudy Gay will be smart to stay in school for at least another year. He's still so raw and he's barely being used consistently in Calhoun's system. He's going to be a fabulous SG when he matures. If Villanueva plays well and scouts think he'll be in the lottery, I expect him to make the jump this year.

those who make those draft projections are people like us and just voice their opinion. i guess march madness makes a lot of youngsters to decide wheteher or not they enter the draft

I'll be watching the college tourneys very carefully. I'm sure we'll be taking one of these guys who'll be playing in the the tourney come March. Both Delonte and Tony were in the Elite Eight. Guys who can produce in the spotlight are good players to go after.

I agree that Charlie V will bolt for the NBA sooner than Boone though I think the reason is that Boone has long-term vision (in terms of developing himself as a player).
I have had a chance to see R Gay play, and not once has he taken over a game. My opinion, he has been a disapointment. He has had ample opportunities to step up, like when Boone has been in foul trouble, and has been passive. Definitely anotheryear.

Yep, Rudy Gay has not been able to display for us his vast talent yet. I think he's holding back, though. You can see it in his eyes that he's not scared of being on the court. And he has the talent to take over games. He's raw, but he's got some confidence in himself. It'll only be a matter of time before he decides to step into the spotlight, just like how Villanueva decided to.

Speaking of Charlie V, tonight he took over the game vs. a huge upset of #7 Syracuse (away by the way). 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 steals.
What I am most impressed about him is that he has been able to improve his game tremendously over the last 2 years. Last year, as a freshmen he was only a contributor. First half of this year, he was inconsistent. Second, half of the year he has been a force.
Game of the week - Uconn Vs UNC on sunday, 1pm.

RR, I would say that Villanueva's game has had a drastic turn around even from the start of this season. I remember watching him early this year and thinking that he still doesn't get it. And then, as if the light went on in his head, he started playing aggressively and with some toughness, as if he didn't mind the physical contact, and that's when he started living up to his potential. In the past, he'd avoid playing in the post. Now, he's constantly crashing the boards and finishing plays on putbacks, despite heavy traffic inside. This new attitude has taken away some of his perimeter shooting (I haven't seen him taking many three pointers as of late), but I'm loving it.
Yeah, that UCONN vs. UNC game is going to be a good one to watch, considering the amount of future NBA players who'll be on display. But there's also the UNC vs. Duke game on Wednesday night, which is the classic showdown of arch rivals.
BC, Boone has definitely been a downer recently. I think it's all due to the national exposure he has been getting. It's like when a player makes it to the cover of Sports Illustrated, they get jinxed. I think Boone has gotten jinxed when ESPN aired a halftime segment on him showing how he rebounds and the techniques he uses to box guys out. But he's still a very young one and the talents are still very clear to see, so its only a matter of time before he starts tearing it up again.

When Boone has a "bad" game, generally speaking he picks up 2 quick fouls, and then sits on the bench. And, when he returns, he is intimidated to not pick up another foul, thus uneffective.

Yes, that's a big part of it. I also think he tries to be too perfect at times, instead of letting himself go wild. He holds himself back, which also coincides with him not wanting to pick up fouls. Still a very talented player.

Question (BCHistorian): derren, will you do an indepth analysis concerning other postions as well?
I certainly can. When I get some free time in my schedule, I'll put a list together.

Just got back from watching the UCONN, UNC game, my take on the game:
> Jawad Williams moved into the first round. He had a solid overall game.
> Josh Boone had a solid game, and kept UCONN in the game in the second half.
> Raymond Felton had a good game. At times he looked great w/ his court vision. Other times, he looked foolish when trying to pentrate inside, while getting rejected by Kellogg (fr), and Charlie V. I would like the Celtics to move up to grab him.
> Marcus Williams had a solid overall game. Generally not a scorer, he kept UCONN in the game the first half. He held his own vs Felton. Only a sophomore.
> Rashad McCants had a good game, but he looked like he was pouting every time he got called for a foul.
> Charlie V was a non-factor, though he had a few nice plays. Have to think UNC was aware of his game, and trying to stop him.
> Sean Mays had a good game, but it is obvious he needs work in the weight room. Talent wise, he is there, but he plays too soft.
> Denham Brown had solid game, and could be one of those second round picks. Generally overshowed by UCONN's frontline.
> Rudy Gay, I realize this is harsh, but he is the single most reason UCONN lost today, and the reason UCONN has lost some of those close games. Simply doesn't have shot selection. Every time he gets the ball, he is looking to score. Never finds the open man. Wouldn't be surprised he stays 2 more years.

Excellent points there, RR. But beware of Rudy Gay. He's only a freshman and I can see that he's trying to alter his game to fit in with Jim Calhoun's system. He was a one man team on his high school squad, but now he's playing on a team that just won the NCAA championship last year, so he's altering his game and trying to fit in. Yeah, he is forcing things and not looking so confident. But then he'll do some amazing things on the court and you'll know why so many people are high on him (including myself). Felton did get a fair share of his layups blocked, but to his credit, he did score over Boone and Charlie on a few other layups. Marcus Williams is a terrific scoring and passing PG. If only he was quicker

Marcus Williams has really impressed me this season. Last year, was almost like a red-shirt season for him since he was an acad ineg for the second half.
One play that was great he made against UNC was when Felton was all over him defensively, and he sees Charlie V cutting to the inside, and threads the needle to him.
I agree, if he were quicker, alot more NBA teams would take a closer look at him.
