Delonte West (sore back) and Wally Szczerbiak (sore right ankle) sat out Saturday's practice at Oracle Arena but are expected to play on Sunday. Sonics - Forward Rashard Lewis (strained tendon sheath, right hand) is out. Center Robert Swift (torn right ACL) is out. Center Danny Fortson (sore knee) is out. Keys to Game:The key to winning more games would actually be to get a new coach. In the meantime, here are some things we need to concentrate on. Get the ball inside. We have been settling for way too many outside shots that haven't been falling for us. We need to either drive to the basket and kick out to the open man or lay it in, or find Jefferson or Gomes under the basket. Special to Wally who is 5 for 25 in his last two games. If they aren't falling, stop shooting. Defense. During our 5 game win streak, we were playing defense and getting stops. Since then, we have been playing defense very spariningly. Each player on the floor needs to commit to defense. Be aggressive. We come out flat and let the other team set the tone of the game. We need to be aggressive in attacking the basket and playing hustle in your face defense.

Our ball movement has been slow. We need to do a better job of swinging the ball quickly to keep the defense from settling into position. Crisp ball movement and quicker decision making is what's needed.
Doc must play Powe a lot more, as well as Rajon. But always, he won't, so why do we even bother?

The Herald is reporting that Doc is planning to start Wally tonight in spite of just a few days ago saying that he likes Wally coming off the bench. Ok, explain to me again why Wally starts over Green? According to everyone else, Green has been progressing and has been playing well. In the past two games Wally has been 5-25 from the field, 1-6 from 3, with 5 assists and 13 rebounds. Green has been 8 -17 from the field, 7-11 from 3, with 4 assists and 8 rebounds. Can you show me where Wally is out playing Green enough to get the start in his place? Please don't tell me it is his defense either because Green's defense has been much better than Wally's, even before the ankle sprains.
It takes a lot to disgust a koolaid drinker like me, but Doc is really pushing it. Even Bulpett sounds incredulous that Doc is making this move. It really makes no sense. Now is the time to give Green minutes. Instead, Doc chooses to run a gimpy Wally into the ground.
Also reported is that Telfair has a cold and missed the morning's shoot around but should play tonight. With Telfair not feeling well, Rondo should get playing time but I wouldn't bet on it.
Also, I believe that Sene will start in place of Glyniadakis since he didn't play in the last game.

Doc is doing a really good job. He's either doing a really good job of disgusting me with his coaching, or he's doing a really good job of getting us into the Greg Oden sweepstakes.
Why start Wally when we aren't going to right this ship this season? At the very least, while Pierce is out, use this time to get Gerald into the game so that he can learn from his mistakes.

Got the Seattle feed. I can't wait till they get back to Boston so I can hear the Celtics announcers again. Wally starting really has me upset. Green didn't lose that spot as he played better than Wally did even on an off night. Doc is at it again messing up the confidence of another young player. I just hope he doesn't do permanent damage to these guys before Danny wakes up and replaces him. Amost game time. I know... pretty sad that on New Year's Eve I am right here watching the Celtics. So Happy New Years to my fellow Greeniacs and hope we get a win.

I'm at my family's place tonight, so I won't be able to watch this game till I get back to my place tomorrow night.
I don't care if we don't win this game. But I will care if Doc refuses to play Gerald, Powe, Rajon and Telfair.
Using Delonte and Wally makes us a slow(er) team.

Al, Gomes, Wally, West and Tony starting for the Celtics. Ridnour, Fortson, Allen, Wilkins and Wilcox starting for the Sonics. That is a surprise that Fortson is in the middle. They started Sene last game. They must be playing with their lineup to find something that works.

Al jumping at center against Fortson. Celtics win the tip. West comes up with it. West tries to penetrate into a crowd and loses the ball. Fortson on a high pick and roll and Gomes draws a charge. Wally loses the ball but Gomes recovers. Gomes comes up under the basket and ball bounces off the bottom of the rim. Sonics rebound. Wilkins hits a jumper. Gomes has his shot blocked from behind by Fortson. Sonics on offense. Wilkins hits. Gomes misses and Sonics rebound. Turnover by the Sonics and Tony finishes at the basket. Alley oop is broken up and Gomes misses but is there to tip his own miss in. Wilkins misses but Fortson is there for the rebound and put back. Celtics miss and Sonics rebound. Ridnour pulls up and hits a jumper. Wally misses a 3. They are discussing that Wally didn't have any legs for the shot as it was way short. Sonics rebound. Wilcox gets the ball at the basket and slams it. Time out with 7:44 left in the first and Sonics up 10-4. Wally clearly doesn't have his legs under him to be taking jumpers but he is starting where he left off in the last game.

Fortson is going to eat up Gomes if he doesn't come out with intensity (and he hasn't been the past few games).

Tony misses and Sonics rebound. Wilcox gets inside and dunks it with authority. Scal and Telfair come in for Boston. Scal with a hand off to Tony who lays it in and draws a foul. Time out with Sonics up 14-6 and 5:53 left in the first

I'm so glad that Scalabrine has gotten more love from Celtics fans. He was being used wrong last season. This season, he's not trying to be an offensive force, but instead is focusing on bringing defensive energy and toughness and its clearly paying off.
Tony is once again our man. He's steadily emerging as a dependable weapon.

Tony misses a jumper but gets his own rebound and drives to the basket and lays it in. Allen hits a jumper. Telfair loses it but tracks down the pass upcourt and gets it back. They get it inside to Wally who lays it in. Sonics miss and Celtics rebound. Wally front rims a jumper from the top of the key. Al rebounds and Wilcox is called for goal tending on the shot. Wilkins hits a fall away jumper over Wally. Tony takes it to the basket and lays it in. Ridnour stops and pops and hits a jumper. Telfair misses a jumper in the lane. rebound goes out of bounds not sure off who. Time out with 2:04 left in the first and Sonics up 23-15

Doc has to let Gerald free and allow him to make mistakes. Kids will do that, and that's the way they learn the best. Games are different from practices.

Celtics inbound with 10 on the SC. Green is in. Telfair gets it to Al who passes out to Green who doesn't have time to get a shot off. West is out for the rest of the game with back spasms. Petro hits a hook shot in the lane. Al goes to the basket but can't finish but draws the foul. He misses the first FT. he hits the second. Sonics pass long up court and it goes out of bounds. Telfair misses a runner in the lane. Wilcox rebounds and Tony picks off the outlet pass and he is fouled by Sene as he takes it to the hoop. He hits both FTs. Green comes up with a loose ball. Sene blocks Al's shot and Sonics come away with it. Ridnour lays it in off the glass over Jefferson. Sonics shooting 81% to 32% for Boston. Score at the end of 1 is Sonics 27 and Celtics 18. Thank goodness for Tony Allen who was taking the ball to the basket and finishing instead of settling for outside shots (like Wally and missing).

Allen misses and gets his own rebound. He misses again and Al comes away with the weak side rebound. I am not sure what happened because they were talking about Lewis and weren't showing the game. Sonics had the ball back and then Celtics are inbounding on the side. I sure wish these guys would pay attention to the game. Rondo into the lane and lays it in but is called for an offensive foul. Sonics miss and Perk rebounds. Foul called and Celtics inbound with 14 on the SC. Green, Scal, Rondo, Perk and Telfair on the court. Telfair gets to the basket and lays it in. Allen misses and Fortson comes over the back for a foul on the rebound. Rondo takes it baseline and lays it in. Rondo with a steal. Telfair gets to the basket and can't finish Sonics rebound. Time out with Sonics up 27-22 and 9:08 left in the second. This team seems to be playing well and clawing back. That means that Doc probably won't keep playing them together.
