at Boston Celtics at NY Knicks Monday, December, 11 7:30 PM NBALP, FSN, MSN WRKOBoston Celtics Probable Starters Sebastian Telfair, 6-0, 160, Lincoln HS (NY) Tony Allen, 6-4, 213, Oklahoma State Paul Pierce, 6-6, 230, Michigan State Ryan Gomes, 6-7, 250, Providence Al Jefferson, 6-10, 256, Prentiss HS (MS) Key Bench Players NY KnicksProbable Starters Stephon Marbury, 6-2, 205, Georgia Tech Jamal Crawford, 6-5, 190, Michigan Quentin Richardson, 6-6, 230, DePaul David Lee, 6-9, 249, Florida Eddy Curry, 6-11, 285, Thornwood HS (IL) Key Bench Players Both teams have struggled and both teams are coming off a win. Both teams have also had several injuries disrupt the team. Keys to the game.We need to come out and play hard from the beginning. We can only come back so many times from big deficits. We need to play with heart and with urgency for 48 minutes. The starters can't dig a hole for the bench players to pull us out of. We need to beat the zone. Last time we played the Knicks, we couldn't seem to do anything against the zone defense. Hopefully Doc has prepared them to face it again and we will be able to beat it this time. We have been doing better with turnovers the past 2 games, but we need to do a better job on the boards. It is hard to do without our centers, but every player needs to commit to crashing the boards. Playing Powe would help. Scal is not a big rebounder and Powe is. Take it to the basket. Do not settle for outside shots. We get a lead or catch up by being aggressive and then we start to settle for jumpers. We need to be aggressive for 48 minutes and attack the basket. We need to play defense. We have been allowing too many points and haven't been able to get stops when we need them. Every player needs to commit to playing tough defense.

Big Al faces a tough matchup in Eddie Curry. Curry is bigger and stronger than Al and if NY is feeding Curry constantly in the post, Al may get into foul trouble. The best thing for us to do is get Al the ball a lot early in the game and have Jefferson get Curry into foul trouble. Otherwise, we'd have to settle for Scalabrine at Center. Actually, Scal does better when he plays physical players, so he might find success guarding Curry tonight. Scal gets in trouble when he's guarding quicker and smaller players.
David Lee is a tough and scrappy player. Gomes needs to keep him in check.

If Al J doesn't score at least in the teens and get at least 8 rebs, and at least 1 block, and less than 6 fouls and shoots at least 45% tonite then I think we should be done for a little while talking about how great he can become and all his potential and yadda yadda. There is absolutely no reason at all he can't do that. The only reason would be that he doesn't want to. Or that the other player plays far harder than him. We can't keep talking about a guy that gets 29 points one nite and 7 the next. or hurt the next week. No more "but look at JON" or "he's still only 21" or "look at all the pword". Either he does it or he doesn't. He's starting now. He's a big boy now. No more crying for Al J. I know I know. We all like him and all, but trust me, this is for the best.

I think that depends on how much the ball goes into Al. If he's getting 15 - 20 shot attempts, he'll certainly get his scoring stats up there. But if our players struggle to get him the ball, or go away from feeding him the ball, it won't be Al's fault for not putting up 20+ pts.

I have to listen to the Knicks announcers tonight. YUK!! The Knicks announcers are pretty bad. Jared Jeffries is back tonight and he improves the Knicks defense quite a bit. Also Curry has been playing the best of his career the past few games. Al is going to have a big test playing against Curry tonight. I would really love to see Powe in.
Starting lineup for Boston is Gomes, Al, Pierce, Telfair and Tony.

Pierce playing with determination. You can see it in his face that he's not lax right now. Hope he stays this way all game. He's really got the hot shooting hand, but he's also taking it to the hoop and not just settling for jumpers.
The ball needs to go into Al at some point, to get him started, as well as to get Curry in foul trouble. But with Pierce being this hot, you got to ride the hot hand. Al is doing a good job on Curry, making him take tough shots. He's also doing a good job battling on the baord.

I like this lineup. Telfair, Allen, Pierce, Gomes, Jefferson gives us a good balance of shooters, slashers, athleticism, post play and defense imo....

Hi just got in from work. The Celtics appear much the aggressor and so far I am enjoying the Garden Party. Curry is being schooled by Jefferson.

Big Al already with 8 boards and 2 blocks in just the 1st quarter. And when he was allowed to work his offense, he looked in control over Curry. He's out now with 2 fouls (one against Nate Robinson that wasn't a real foul).
Good going Al.

Q at the qtr - Celtics looking very good after one as Gomes, Pierce, Telfair and Jefferson all paced the Celtics. The big boss is at the game but fortunately no cell phone is attached to his ear. Iverson will get traded out of the EC, I think.

I hadn't realized Ole Larry came out of retirement borrowing Danny Boya's old uni. I thought Larry wasn't walking through that door.
