FL posted today on the news section that Peter Vescey got some inside info that Ainge is strongly going after Pau Gasol. Now, everyone has their own opinion about what comes out of Vescey's mouth, but for the record, I don't think he makes things up. I honestly do think he has a lot of inside information, but he comments on whatever he hears and sometimes what he hears is just the very beginning of talks. And most times, talks are started but don't go anywhere. And that's why he doesn't look credible most times. Its not that he's making stuff up, or his sources aren't credible or reliable. Its just way at the beginning stages and trades aren't agreed upon on the initial offer on the first day of talks.
So is there any truth that Ainge is strongly going after Gasol? IMO, yes there is. I have heard in the past that Ainge likes Gasol (as do I), and so this does not strike me as a big surprise. Especially since the league is heading toward smaller, quicker lineups, Gasol could easily play Center in Ainge's plans. Gasol runs like a deer and has the ability to shoot the ball, in addition to his solid post up skills and I can easily see Ainge fantasizing about these qualities on our team.
Would Gasol be a good fit in Boston? Yeah, I can see him being a good fit. This year, I have grown increasingly lenient towards moving away from a ball dominating wing player and instead, giving the reins over to our PG's and big men. We're too perimeter oriented and we live and die by the jumper. Gasol will help solidify our inside game and also give us another good rebounder and shot blocker.
What happens to Perkins or Jefferson if Gasol comes here? Well, I don't think either of them will be traded away for Gasol, so let the competition begin to see which starting combination works best. Maybe Perk and Gasol is the better starting duo. Maybe its Jefferson and Gasol. Maybe eventually, Perk and Jefferson will start with Gasol playing heavy minutes off the bench. We'll just let them duke it out and see what works best.
I am for this trade, though will hold off if it involves Jefferson, Gerald, Telfair or Rajon.
