There is plenty of bad blood between the Pacers and the Celtics so that the team should be motivated to play against them. Actually our record should motivate them to play against anyone. With Powe's performance on Monday, it will be interesting to see if Doc plays him. I hope he does since he brings so much that we need on this team.
Key Matchups
vs
Perk has been playing very well the last few games and from what he said in the Herald, he is taking our lack of defense personally and will be working even harder. O'Neal is always a tough match up.
vs
Granger is a young and talented player. He has played very well against us and is averaging over 11 points per game this season. Pierce is coming off one of his worst games in memory and stepped up to take the blame for our lack of intensity late in the game. It will be interesting to see how he responds.
Keys to the Game
Pierce and Wally have to find their offense. Pierce needs to use better shot selection and if his shot isn't there, find the open man instead of forcing it.
We have to play defense, especially late in the game. We can't allow the other team to shoot over 50% and expect to win.
Limit turnovers. We still turn the ball over too much. So far, Pierce and Wally are the biggest culprits. The young players have been pretty good taking care of the ball.
We have to run at every opportunity. We are much better when we run and get easy baskets in transition. We can wear the Pacers down.
Play Powe and sit Scal. This kid is for real and adds toughness, energy, defense, rebounds and blocked shots when he is playing. Scal adds none of the above.
Increase intensity in the last 5 minutes instead of letting up. In just about every game, we were in it and even ahead up intil the last 5 minutes and then we seem to relax and go away from what got us there. We have to stick with it for 48 minutes and not let up.
