argentina lost to spain, yess. I root for spain, although if gasol is injured then greece wins. but the game for bronze will be good as well. argentina could win the us team as well. time to see if americans are able to adopt the mindset of a team sport.
you know the reason usa lost is that they were still cocky and thought the gold was given. once they stop to do that they will win again. by wide margin i should say.

There is no excuse for this. There is no reason on Earth that a team with Lebron and Dwayne Wade should lose to anyone. If I'm Nike I'm starting to rethink endorsements. I am also starting to rethink our position on when the Soviet Team "stole" gold from us. Maybe we should go back to amatures and college kids and high school kids cause this is getting us nowhere.

I really thought this USA team had a strong chance to win gold. Too much talent.
But lets give credit to Greece. I haven't seen the game, but from all that I've read, they played a really good game, and they may be the team to beat.
Now, the way I see it, there are some reasons why we lost. First of all, the USA team is very young. Consider that the main players who were playing the most minutes came out in the same draft as Perkins and Jefferson. Lebron, Wade, Carmelo, Bosh, and Hinrich all came out in the 2003 draft, along with Perkins, and Dwight Howard came out in '04, along with Jefferson.
Secondly, I'm sure most of the teams competing in the tournament have been playing together longer than the USA team members have been playing with one another. At times, the chemistry wasn't there.
But you know what, there's no excuses. We played well enough to come this far, looking like a dominant team, and we had a very good chance to win the gold, but we fell short. Hats off to Greece, and I applaud this USA team for being a better example than the previous USA team.

There is no excuse for this. All these excuse like they haven't played together long enough is ridiculous. It's like saying a fighting team with Hercules, young Muhammed Ali, Achilles, young Audy Murphy, young Joe Frazier, young George Forman, Sampson before his hair was cut, Doug Flutie, Perk, and Adam Viniateri could reasonably be beat in a rumble by the Jets in West Side Story or those guys on the TV Show Contender, or the cast of Staurday Nite Live cause they are vets and know each other real well. Jordan and all them didn't know each other. The teams we used to send to the Olympics didn't know each other.

I tell you what--put this exact same USA team back on the court in 3 years, and we'll see a different story. This USA team is a strong team, but its still a young team.

You just summed up why we don't win on the world level anymore. We cant just throw talent out there and overwhelm teams anymore.

Can't compare teams that have been playing together for 2-3 years to a team that has been playing 2-3 weeks.

Ok so the Dream Team and the ones that came after them dominated everyone easily even though they never played a minute in their life because ........ well acording to your theories there is no reason. Total fluke.
It's pretty simple. This year Greece had better players. Nobody ever thinks of that. When our dream team with Jordan and all them won huge it was cause we had better players. But when Greece wins it's cause of some playing together time thing.
America sounds like the kid on the court who keeps getting beat and keeps saying how much better he is and would win if only yadda yadda. We used to send amatures and win this thing. Amatures that didn't have 3 year commitments.

Total fluke. Ever since the dream team, other countries have slowly started catching up to us. Unlike 10-15 years ago, we cant just throw our best players and just overwhelm them. Other countries arent scared of us anymore. Other countries' elite players play together most of their adult lives. They actually play as team, instead of a collection of players. THis is not a knocj on this years U.S. team. IMO they played unselfish and they played hard, its just that they havent played together nearly long enough to play as a team. Like somebody else said, if we had our players play together for years, we'd still dominate on the national level.

No excuse for team USA to lose. Three years or not none of the past dream teams had time to prepare for the olympics why should they be any different? Having Lebron, Wade and melo on the same team should never lose to a team who have inferior talent. It comes down to their egos which probably played a huge role in the lost against Greece.

The USA squad can be summed up best as:
bones, thugs, and dis-harmony.
*Bones, actually boneheads. Players (excluding Battier) who couldn't finish college, or never started.
*Thugs, represented by the entourages and tatoos.
*Dis-harmony is present, regardless if the players say to the media "team." Every player wants the damn ball.
