I agree that teams need to be together more than 2-3 weeks to develop the type of chemistry that is needed to dominate. The Dream team had 3 players who could win with 4 other players pulled off the street... Bird, MJ and Magic. There just aren't players of that caliber on the team. Wade and Lebron may reach that level but they are still young and aren't there yet. It didn't seem as though they were playing as a team as much as showcasing one or the other player. Also, in watching the game, Greece had defense that was way superior to ours. Greece played defense and USA didn't... The defense of the Greek team disrupted our offense and our players. We didn't play defense and allowed them to get way too many easy shots. As with the Celtics, the USA team needs to put more of an emphasis on defense in order to move to the top.

I don't think Melo, Lebron, and Wade can be on the same court together since all three player needs the ball in their hands in order to be effective not to mention none of them I would consider all-star defensive players. 2-3 weeks together wouldn't had made a difference at all. It's not like all the other countries play together all year round. Most of the other countries players play in other leagues besides the Olympics and you don't see them making excuses about being together? It all comes down to ego and team play. And quite frankly team usa that day did not play as a team and it showed that day against Greece. No excuses, they aren't as great as they think they are if they were D.Wade wouldn't be the only one with a championship ring.

Yes, other countries top players play in other leagues, but they also always play for their national team. There a deifference for playing to gether for 2-3 weeks, to playing together every world event over multiple years.

We are starting to have quite a collection of players that are well aware of international ball. Wade, Melo, and Lebron played together at the Olympics which is part of why they played so much at this thing.

My concerns with the national teams are that it takes a toll on the players and the teams they play for. The answer to putting the USA back on top of the world games would be to keep the team together and continue to build chemistry and to get more used to the way international ball is played. But I have no doubt that the players who played for their national teams will run out of gas by the end of the season. They put in so much work this off season and will have little time to recoup. Then there are the players like Gasol who was injured and will miss part of the season. We all want the USA to do well but it has to come at the expense of their teams in the NBA... In order to be dominant again, the team will need to remain together and work each off season between the games.

don't agree with you fl here. look at other players like nocionis, parkers, etc. and don't look at this year's worlds but also past olympics and others. the fear of taking it's toll is overestated
