I think the biggest mistake coaches can make is to force their players into fitting into their scheme. Red said it best, coaches should coach around their players. Find out what they excel at, then build your strategy around that. Look at Pop's time in San Antonio. Those 03, 05 and 07 championship squads were slow and methodical on offense, and and incredibly stifling on defense. Flash forward to that 2014 championship team, while their defense was solid, that fast moving offense was the engine that made that run. Seems Brad and Udoka prefer to find their type of players who will accentuate their idea of what they want the team to be. We tried Kanter (twice), we tried Jabari, etc, but they didn't fit the mold.

Is bringing in Brad Beal worth potentially disrupting this incredible chemistry we have going on?
He's surely better than Smart scoring the ball, but Smart is such a nearly perfect fit right now when you consider the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Do we move Jaylen for Beal? But then we give up height at the 2, and we know that GM Brad Stevens covets height at all positions because of our switching defense.

The only way on Earth I even consider bringing him in is if Tatum walked into the office and said "If you don't bring in Beal trade me." oooorrr in the even more unlikely scenario that he'd be willing to take a huge pay cut and play for something like the MLE. I'm not sure but I think we still have the $17.7mil trade exemption. Maybe he could sign for 20 and we could trade Nesmith for him in a designed sign and trade. That's it.
He has been seriously hurt and sick lately too. I wouldn't say Beal is a cancer, but he'd have to know his role.....4th. 4th behind Tatum, Jaylen, Time Lord, and sometimes 5th behind Smart.
He'd have to want this and buy into it. Meantime you have to get Jaylen and Tatum to understand their stats will take a bit of a hit because they'll need to play less minutes. That's what KG, Ray, and PP all had to understand and did.

I listened to Draymond's podcast with Beal today.
One thing I feel good about is if Beal comes here, he won't battle Tatum for the alpha role. He and Tatum have known each other forever, and uears ago he told Tatum with all seriousness that Tatum is going to be a million times better than him, and that Tatum is going to be the face of the NBA.
Beal knows Tatum is ascending to superstardom -- he believes it.

Depending what this team does it's gonna be hard to mess with the core. I'd do a backflip to trade Al's expiring and some picks for Beal, but that wouldn't get it done. I don't see us adding another max-level contract in the foreseeable future.

Question -- with Smart out today, DW started in his place. Imagine if it wasn't DW, but it was Bradley Beal playing instead. How do you think this team would've done tonight?

They prolly would've won handily. Beal would've been able to contribute more on offense than White did.

Yes but to get Beal, what would we have had to give up? Probably Brown. And without Brown, we would have missed his epic first half.

I'm hoping that Beal is bent on winning a championship, and playing with his St. Louis brother, and would happily sacrifice getting the max extension that only WAS can offer.
As a free agent this summer (if he declines his players' option), Beal can leave WAS for nothing. But if they want something for him, they can take what we offer them (Smart + ??).

We definitely can't get him as a free agent. No one would leave potentially 100+ million dollars on the table. A trade would maybe be possible, but it would be hard. We don't have a lot of good assets. I guess we could do Al/Smart and like 3 unprotected firsts for Beal? It still seems like some other team would give a better offer.

I wouldn't trade Grant Williams for him. I wouldn't trade Al for him unless Al wanted a raise or was considering not coming back.
This team is virtually perfect. It runs on defense. It doesn't need a 4th star and the luxury tax that comes with that. We tried an aggressive scoring guard. It was Dennis Shroeder. Huge fail.

I'm kinda thinking Beal would be that good fit that Kyrie and Kemba couldn't be. Like Kemba, Beal would be a really good teammate -- but unlike Kemba he won't alter the way the offense is run. And like Kyrie, Beal is a dynamic scoring threat -- but unlike Kyrie he won't ruin the lockerroom.

Feels like the rule changes hit Beal and Lilliard pretty hard. If anything, I'd be trying to get a better ball handler to bring the ball up court.

I'm still on the fence about Beal. Maybe sacrificing some defense for offense could be good? What's the difference between Steph's defense and Beal's?

No. The bench was OK. If we trade for Beal (like sign & trade), Brad Stevens and Ime might have to suit up again!
