Seeing how Chris Paul has brought stability to a young Suns team, was wondering what effect would a quality veteran PG have on our young team?
Kyle Lowry and Mike Conley are vet Points who are no longer in their prime, but may still bring that veteran leadership and savvy. Both are in their final years of their contract (Lowry making 30 mil).
Would either team be interested in Marcus Smart? We'd have to give up more than just Smart, of course.

Not necessarily. Both guys can walk for nothing. And they may not cost as much at this age. I'm not as familiar with Conley but I always thought Lowry was a tough and smart opponent.

Both Conley and Lowry are free agents, so they could be had on the market. Unfortunately they are both good enough to get about the MLE, so we are out of the running. Toronto would maybe consider trading Lowry in a SnT, but i have a hunch they are gonna regroup now that they are back in Toronto and make another push with their squad. I don't see Utah moving on from Conley, seeing how close they are to winning it all.
I'd love to see Lowry spend a couple of years in a Celtics jersey, but i dont know if it can feasibly happen.

Having a legit PG who can run or initiate the offense and set up teammates for good scoring opportunities is big. He doesn't necessarily need to be the star of the team either. But if he is, then the team needs to be constructed to accentuate his game.
Chris Paul and Trae Young are surrounded by good shooters and wing scorers. Philly is sort of in hot water because though they have Ben Simmons creating for others, his star teammate's game (Embiid) is not a perfect fit with his. Same problem with Milwaukee -- Holiday is a fantastic Point, but Giannis' game doesn't accentuate his game.
A PG who can handle the pressure of the playoffs and come through with accentuating Tatum's and Brown's game will be a boost for the team, and catapult us to the next rung.

Any idea who we could reasonably target to stabilize our PG spot?
Would Lonzo Ball be a consideration? For all his talk about his ugly shooting form, he has revamped it and has shot 37% the past 2 years (on 8 attempts per game this season). Hit 78% on his FT. And he's not a high usage PG too.
His dad is still his dad, but at least we're not hearing his voice all over talk radio anymore.
Ball passes, rebounds and gets steals, and is a tall PG.
He's in the final year of his contract, at 14 mil. He's 23 years old, so he fits in with Tatum and Jaylen.
Why would New Orleans trade him, though?

From what ive read he's not a very good PG in the half-court. Fast break he's great. But in the half-court he's more of a shooting guard. I do like his game, but not for the money im assuming he's gonna make.

Would Utah want to trade Mike Conley for Marcus Smart +?
Gobert and Smart would give Snyder 2 All-NBA defenders, and Smart is an underrated passer.

Not seeing how Conley/Lowry would be feasible to get due to salary size. If I suspect a vet PG upgrade they should start looking at Rubio, Bledsoe, Brogdon or Murray as options. Obviously, it'll have to be an combination of Marcus Smart/Langford or Thompson plus future picks depending on their target.

Maybe Rubio out of that bunch.

I have a bias against journeymen who have never gone far in the playoffs, so I'm not a fan of Rubio.
What about bringing in Devonte Graham from Charlotte? He's not a true veteran, but he's 26, a free agent, has three years under his belt, lost minutes last year to LaMelo last year, posted 18 points and 7.5 assists two years ago, and made under $2 million last year so he might be affordable. He's an above average 3 point shooter, although not great from 2. Could be a reasonable-cost alternative.

My concern is I don't feel I can trust him in the waning seconds of a close game with the outcome balancing on the scale. But we can do much worse.

Depending on what type of offense we run, Rubio may not be a bad fit. He's an amazing passer, and phenomenal defender too. He is absolutely terrified of shooting the basketball though. Passes up open looks all the time. He can really bog down an offense that way.

What about our old friend Rajon?

He's like an older Rubio, but i think at the right price and in limited minutes he'd be fine. also, it comes down to what offense the new coach runs. if they run a CBS-style offense where everything runs through the high post, then they may not be the best fit.

Because he is an RFA and New Orleans already have Brandon Ingram signed to the max. They'll soon have Zion signed to the max as well. It is unlikely, as a small market team, that they'll be able to afford all those guys along with the other various 1st rounders on their roster.
