News is that we'll continue to try trading Kemba but given his injury history and inefficiency..to go along with a 35mil/year for the next 2 years..
Would you be willing to trade away Kemba if it meant giving away Smart and/or R Will as a sweetener?

I'd throw in Smart in a second. Our team has a ceiling with him playing a major role. Even if it means a temporary step back, we'd be better off down the road. For me, losing Smart is a perq, not a cost.
Robert is trickier. If I knew he'd be able to consistently give us 30 minutes a game and be available 70+ games plus the playoffs, then I'd be very reluctant to part with him. He could be really, really good.
Kemba is gone in two years and we may just have to ride it out and prepare for summer 2023 free agency.

Would you be willing to trade away Kemba if it meant giving away Smart and/or R Will as a sweetener? Yes. We have to look it at as a new start. We are building around Tatum and Brown. Get rid of the high priced players (Kemba, Evan) and those whose voice has become an irritant (Smart -- my opinion). Go after guys hungry to prove their worth (the way IT and Jae Crowder were).

I actually liked Evan in the short time he has been here. He has been a somewhat reliable scorer and I could see him being a very good 6th man or 4th scoring option in a starting unit. But he'll come at a cost we can't afford..not with Kemba's salary as it is.

I like Evan too, but resigning him means we take ourselves out of the free agent picture when Kemba's contract is up.
Maybe there's another way to climb back into contention, but the only obvious one I see is to strip ourselves down to JB, JT and guys on their first contracts, and get ready for summer 2023. Brad would have to sit down with JB and JT and explain what's about to happen though.

Sort of got this idea from another board. But what about trading Kemba for Chris Paul (Fresh, you listening?)? He's declining his 44 mill player option.
Maybe CP knows his playing days are coming closer to an end, but he's still playing at a championship level. Maybe he sees Tatum and Jaylen and thinks this duo is better than what Phoenix has, thus giving him an opportunity to get that title.
I think the Jays will have no problem being led by such a great veteran and proven All-NBA player, who is a great guy and teammate.
But the added benefit of bringing him here is the potential for him to coach here when he's done playing. I think he'll be a tremendous coach -- has the demeanor to be a coach and obviously the mind for it.

I'd love that gamble on Paul, but i think he either stays with PHX, or he signs with the Knicks.
If we want to take a gamble, what about flipping Kemba for Wall? Both have had injury problems, both have 2 years left on their deal, Wall makes 8-10 more per year than Kemba.
The more I think about, the more i like it. Mostly on the defensive end. Wall can be a beast on D. He's 6'3" with a 6'9" wingspan. Dude can switch onto 2s and 3s and is not a liability. He also can get to the hoop (which we sorely need) and he is one of the best passers in the game. The downside is his jumper and FT% aren't as good as Kemba. (though he is a solid catch-n-shoot 3pt shooter, and he'd get a lot of those looks playing with the J's.

Only thing about Wall is he doesn't come with a winner's pedigree. I want to bring in a star who is known as a winner.

I'm not wild about guys who are over 30 and have had serious injuries. If their contract is no longer than Kemba's though, I guess we have little to lose. A backcourt of Smart and Wall could be hideous to watch though as they are both awful shooters.

I love Smart, but I think he's a luxury this team can't afford right now. He's the guy that goes to a team that's one piece away from competing. Think Ron Artest on those 2009-2010 Lakers teams. But man if we trade him I'm gonna miss seeing that guy in a Celtics jersey. He's the kind of guy you pray to have as a teammate. Dude will run through a brick wall to win.

Ecen though they got knocked early, he lifted pretty far. Wall has not been that type of guy.

Love him or hate him, Smart makes you think of bricks! I think I'd have a different opinion about Smart if he were used differently, as in sparingly. He's miscast as the guy who has the ball in his hands to run the offense.
