Looking forward to what these two rookies can prove this season. They were drafted for their shooting (among other things), so we hope they will not disappoint, as Carsen Edwards did.
Brad was impressed with the way Nesmith, under Jerry Stackhouse’s coaching, was able to hit a variety of pro level 3 pt shots, even when his body weight was taking him away from the basket. And being that Stackhouse was running NBA offensive schemes, Nesmith already tasted, and succeeded in what he’ll be asked to do as a pro.
Payton Pritchard. I didn’t pay much attention to him in college, but watching his game highlights and his workouts, I feel he has a real shot at becoming a future starter. Why? Because his ball handling is legit, his shooting is legit, his IQ is legit (you can’t really say these things aboutmCarsen Edwards). These 3 things are the foundation of an NBA player. He knows how to play the game and is a true gamer.

4 HS state championships for PP as a small guard is impressive too. We tend to overlook 4 year college players but there have been some legit players to go that route to the NBA. I think the general thought is "if they were any good they would have come out after their freshman year", but it's not necessarily true.

I watched some games with Luke Ridnour (who I liked coming out in that draft) to see if I’m thinking too highly of Pritchard, since Ridnour’s dribbling and IQ were likewise legit, and though Luke had a long career in the NBA, he wasn’t anything to write home about. But Pritchard is better — more aggressive, more physical, more of a scoring threat with his shooting and penetrating, better rebounder, better defender, tougher mindset. Ridnour was a flashier passer, and that’s probably it.

He's not supposed to really do a lot because he's behind Kemba, Teague, and even Smart at the pg situation, but if there were injuries, especially right in the middle of the playoffs, you need a guy ready to play. You hopefully shouldn't have to wait on a 4 year starter and Pac 12 POY. If it was a college freshman you'd quite possibly have a player not ready. It's not worth throwing away good chances at a deep playoff run on taking a shot on a 19 year old if you don't have to

I think Pritch has a shot to be our long term starting PG — not a star PG, but a solid role player type. Kind of like the BJ Armstrong, John Paxton, Steve Kerr type who are primarily there to adequately supplement the star wings with lights out shooting.

Yup. If either JT or JT ever get to the point where they require teams to double them, all the other guys have to do is be able to hit open shots and defend adequately.

I see Pritchard as a Devin Booker-lite.
I love Pritchard’s pull up jumper.

Kemba resting early in the season is good for 2 reasons:
- it keeps him fresher for the playoffs
- gives Pritchard an opportunity to play and learn (if he earns it of course, which I think he will).

It's good hearing some positive vibes about our rookies in training camp especially coming from JT and Smart. Hopefully Ainge did hit these picks out of the park as that'll change the trajectory on how these team perform this season. I'll keep my expectation low as worst case we have the TPE to add depth to the roster.
