Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t, but what’s being discussed now is Gordon Hayward wants out, and if true I can understand it.
Hayward came over in free agency expecting to be a big time player for us, and we offered him a contract that reflected that — not for him to be anywhere from the first to the fifth option on offense (fifth, when Smart feels like jacking it up).
If he wants to leave, I’ll support him. If he stays, I’ll support him.
In some ways, we have too many mouths to feed, and less might be better. Tatum is clearly trending upward, and so is Jaylen. Kemba is still a big threat too.

What about trading Gordon to Golden State in exchange for [HASH]2 pick and other assets to make salaries work?
We then draft Anthony Edwards.
I’m sure Hayward will love playing for the Warriors, and his skillset will fit perfectly there. I’d hate that GSW will probably be champs again, but our future will be bright with Tatum-Edwards-Jaylen.

i think the only reason he wants to leave is to get a new contract, so trading be on the table. he wants to opt out* and get paid, just like Horford did.
*IF it's true. I think the sources sound pretty weak so far.

But lets say Detroit moves up and drafts ball, for that trade to work we'd have to take back Wiggins' insanely bad contract. Possibly the worst contract in the NBA right now. Dude is trash. There's really no other way to make it work, cuz r n GS has the huge contracts of their stars, which they obv wouldnt include in the trade, and a bunch of guys making near league minimum.

Just like Horford as stated in this thread, Gordon is just looking to receive his last big contract before his value start fade more due to his past injuries he endure with the three year stint here in Boston. Not to mention with the cap size uncertainty due to the pandemic doesn't seem ideal risk to make as we'll probably see NBA contracts start to go down as revenue is dipping and probably take many years to recover from. Ideal world, I would like to opt out and possibly sign a cheaper contract to stay with the Celtics as he does add a lot of value within the offense flow that we don't really get from Jays or Kemba. If there is an S&T option to be made, I rather add more versatility in either at the Center spot or more scoring coming off the bench. I've seen rumors about Indiana being an option for hopefully one of their centers, Turner.

I can't imagine GH getting another big contract after being hurt for 2 of 3 post-seasons in Boston. I guess you never know though.

Definitely we will see on the big contract. If he's going to get another $20+ million contract this would be the year to do it before the cap get hit.

What would be the most years you would sign him for at $20?

So what’s happening with Hayward?
Altanta? Cleveland? Indiana? Staying in Boston?

I can see him being traded for Turner from Indiana since we drafted all guards again. We need big guys.
Or Atlanta for the trade exception and full mle to sign FA bigs. Banks and Horford would be on the table in this scenario as Al was traded to OKC and will likely get bought out.

Hard to gauge what Hayward will do. I would prefer he stay cause it gives us 4 All-Star caliber players, but he may not want to stay here.
So, if Hayward leaves, where do you think he goes, and who or what do we get in return?

Hayward opts out, but that doesn’t automatically rule him out from remaining with us. We can still sign him to a new and longer contract (hopefully for less money). But it does open the door for him to just flat out sign with another team that has money, or it allows a potential sign and trade with a team Hayward prefers (who obviously want him too, but don’t have the salary flexibility to sign him outright).

If you go back and listen to Brad and Danny’s interview on draft night, when they were asked about Hayward’s options, they sounded as if they knew he would not be back.
I don’t think Danny really wanted Myles Turner and his 3 year 54 million dollar contract (18 per year). He would have been stuck with him for a while.

Who would've thought 4 years for $120 million would be Hayward market?
Can't blame Hayward for making one last big contract. Unfortunately, unless the roster start to improve he going to see a lot of mediocre play out of the Charlotte roster.

I haven't seen anyone who thinks Charlotte made a smart move by signing GH for so much, and so long.
I don't want this to sound like sour grapes, but in terms of how much we'll miss Hayward, there were honestly times in the Miami series when I found myself thinking, when Herro and Robinson were knocking down 3's and GH was missing wide open ones, why are we paying so much for this guy?
I wish Gordon had been healthy for his time with us. We very well might have made 2 Finals. But he wasn't, and he wasn't worth a max contract anymore. I haven't heard the latest, but if Danny can wrangle a trade exception (if that's the right term) out of Charlotte via a sign and trade, this could turn out benefiting us.
