Smart has to rank no higher than 5th on the team in shots taken, after Hayward, Walker, Tatum and Brown. Probably behind Edwards too.
I'm still waiting to see what kind of difference Kanter makes on the boards because I feel that could be our achille's heel.

Agree that Kanter has to be big on the boards and with second chance points.
I agree with the thinking that Kanter should be with the second unit, and allowed the freedom to attack.
I think it’s safe to say our starting unit is fine — able to compete with any starting 5 in the league.
Our bench has to more than holds its own. That means our young ones don’t play like rookies and second year players. Carsen, GWill and RWill need to contribute 15 solid minutes every game.

I'm starting to think that Jaylen should come off the bench too. With Kemba, Gordon and JT out there, the starters don't need another scorer.

I think that’s where we see Jaylen’s assorted value, not only as a complementary scorer / emergency go to guy, but also for his defensive versatility. Jaylen is benefitted by playing with better players. If he’s asked to shoulder more of the scoring responsibilities (like he would off the bench), he’ll come up short. But alongside of Kemba-Hayward-Tatum, Jaylen can shine. In another thread, you mentioned the development of RWill — yup, the kid oozes with potential, and we’re seeing him start to capitalize on it a little at a time. I’d love to see him come flying in for rebounds and be a monster on the boards. I want to see him be a threat on putbacks. He can offer so much more. I think Carsen is warming up now. We should see him start to impact the game with his perimeter scoring.

Despite our loss, I still feel real good about our chances. Once Hayward is back healthy, we are a terrific team. Just need:
- GWill, RWill and Carsen to step into their roles. You just know these three, by the 3/4 mark of the season, will be consistent, solid contributors off the bench. They’re not flashes in the pan — they have legit translatable skills, and more importantly, the fire and the drive to impact the game. RWill is a bit more raw, but I expect things to fall into place rather quickly for Grant and Carsen.

I think the bench has to have more of an offensive impact. They make a defensive impact, but BOS I feel is like in that second tier of teams, where everything has to go right to win it all.

Theis is really starting to own his starting spot, which is needed. But IF Robert Williams can somehow develop 3 years worth in a mere couple of months, and be the rebounding, shot blocking, lob slamming, steals machine he’s capable of being, there is no one in the East who can match up with us.

We're 2nd to last in bench points per game. The worst team is the Rockets and the best team is the Clippers. Flip it around and the Rockets have the highest scoring from their starters (Celtics 3rd) and the Clippers are the worst. I'm not sure it matters it terms of points whether it comes from the bench or starters, especially with shortened rotations in the playoffs - but, we do need more of an impact from our bench. That much has been clear. Carsen has been a major disappointment and Grant's shooting has been atrocious. Wanamaker has been our most consistent bench player at this point which isn't something I'd like to hear.

It’s only a matter of time before Carsen’s and GWill’s shots start falling.
Gotta also remember that we’ve had injuries to our starters that have caused Smart, and has 10+ ppg, to start a lot of games. Plus, our best offensive big man, Kanter (who’s now starting to consistently produce) missed a bunch of games early on.
And Brad Wanamaker is now finding his role as a scorer off the bench. I like him in that Sam Cassel role.
By years end, our bench will be in fine shape.

I don't think Edwards or GWill have settled in yet, so I do expect some improvement from them, but I'm not sure when we'll see it. RWill is another guy who should show some improvement in this area, but I'm not expecting huge gains from him this year.
Semi has suddenly shown some offensive ability. It seems that all he did for the last two years was hit the occasional spot up 3, but recently he's been diversifying. And Kanter does well when he gets the chance. Neither of them have played that much so far. Romeo could be our best bench scoring option, but he hasn't shown he can stay healthy. Maybe by Spring.
Finally, a good PG can create better shots for the other guys. This is where Waters comes in. I bet our bench scoring would improve if he played 12-18 minutes.

I could see the C's really keeping an eye on the waiver wire after the trade deadline. this team could really use a good vet backup or two for the stretch run. Think Casell and PJ Brown during the big three era

I can't say I am surprised with Carsen, because I read his game log in college, however William's I am surprised. Undersized players are boom or bust.

The picture is getting clearer. We are outside contenders who do have a puncher’s chance to win it all this year, based on how good our Big 4 are, and how harmonious we play as a team.
For us to be legitimate, I repeat myself again, we will need the bench to be really solid — and they’re starting to come around.
- Smart and Kanter are proven (Enes needs to tighten up his D). - Wanamaker is solidifying himself as a capable backup PG - Grant and Carsen are getting minutes, which means they’ve earned Brad’s trust — it’s just a matter of time before we see what Brad’s seeing in practices. - Semi is starting to come around with his offense. - RWill is flashing here and there.
By the halfway mark, and especially as we gear up for the playoffs, we hope this bench unit will have their game together. If that happens, the sky is the limit.

We’re nearing the third of the season, and we’re seeing more consistency from the young bench. Grant Williams, after hitting his first NBA 3 pointer, seems to have found his confidence scoring the ball. You can tell he’s more comfortable out there, and that’s freeing him up to make impact plays.
Players and coaches are saying Romeo is proving himself in practice — and now we’re seeing it make its way into live games.
If the rest of the season is used to develop confidence in GWill and Romeo, we’re going to see a bench of Kanter, Grant, Smart, Wanamaker and Romeo. That’s a 10 man rotation Brad can have fun with.
