Ainge will sometimes keep an open roster spot for a late season acquisition, but if they want to see what Tacko can do with more coaching and development, they may have to use Yabu’s vacant spot on him, or risk some other team picking him up.

I have read various opinions (hence rumors) that Tacko has displayed a lot of skills previously not displayed in college.

Derren, here's a question for you. Would Manute Bol be a legit player in the league today? I think he would have his place in the league and I think Tacko is that.

Actually, I pulled up highlights of Manute, and he was surprisingly more springy than I remembered him. I have to wonder though, the way the game is played today, where record numbers of threes are attempted each year, where Centers are more valuable shooting threes, and Centers are constantly being asked to switch onto PG’s, and the name of the game is to he positionless, would Manute find a place on a roster? I do think Tacko Fall can have a place on the team, but as a specialty player who comes in for specific plays designed to utilize his height.

If he truly moves better than expected, as many have indicated, then Danny will probably sign him. He certainly doesn't mind taking on projects. Remember how far Perk had to come just to get on the floor the first couple of years?

Manute actually had a good stroke from deep. i wonder if some modern nba coach would've seen that and worked on it when manute was young? he couldve been a real force shooting threes from the top of the key then going back on D and patroling the middle.

I sorted some stats to test Derren's theory of using a shooting big to draw away Tacko. It's plausible but I don't think it's a slam dunk. There are about 30 plus bigs in the league that hit about 1 three pointer or more per game, so each team has about 1. Last year ours was Al. Some of those guys aren't exactly world beaters either. Lots of Frank Kamiskys and Kelly Olynyks. I'd rather Anthony Davis beat us outside than inside.

But come playoffs we’d have to face Centers like Myles Turner, Brooke Lopez, Marc Gasol, Joel Embiid and now Al Horford — those guys can knock down threes so Tacko will have to do his best to close out on them (which Tacko will struggle with).

Big slow guys have almost became extinct due to the demand for switching in PnR defense.

Remember how far Perk had to come just to get on the floor the first couple of years? I would like to know how many people would have thought Perks would have been the best player out of the 4 taken between MEM, and BOS? Certainly not me. Ainge fleeced the great West on that deal.

Perk is a great example of a player being the perfect fit on a team. He had his issues on the offensive end, but he could defend inside and he could rebound and that's all that team needed from him.

So I double checked for comparison. Boban's stats are highly respectable because they are super efficient. I have no idea what his plus/minus is. Boban is 30. He is also at least 3 inches shorter and his wingspan is 4 inches shorter. In fact Tacko scored the highest ever wingspan at the combine. and for standing reach. That's totally unteachable. Also Tacko only picked up a basketball starting when he was 16. I checked his speed measurements. They were not very good. But I wouldn't say they were disqualifyingly bad. For one thing some guys like Bol Bol didn't do measurements. His body fat was 6.8%. Looking at the numbers I'm fairly certain that at the very least his speed numbers are well inside the ball park for the other giants that have played this game.
Now....look at some intangibles. If wiki is to be believed....."Fall is a devout Muslim.[1] He maintained a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in high school,[26] while taking advanced mathematics and science classes. He became fluent in English within 8 months and scored in the 95th percentile on the SAT. A computer science major at UCF"
Folks this is all you can ask for. He is a no risk, medium high reward scenario. He instantly changes the game for the 15 minutes he's out there

Maybe it was Brad who said that Tacko has a bright future — even if it’s not in basketball because of how smart and humble he is.
Yeah, for sure there is no risk whatsoever for keeping Tacko. We got him for free. Let’s see how he develops and go from there.
