What do you guys think of Horford, in lieu of what’s happened since season’s end?
I can understand if Ainge told him it’s better if he leaves Boston cause we’re heading in a different direction. But if it was Horford who moved on from us looking for a more lucrative deal (and it was said that we offered him a fairly competitive new deal), then I’m not sure what to think of him.
If he’s thinking about the Clippers where he can team up with Kawhi, it’s totally understandable. But word is now he’s in talks with New Orleans. They’re not competing for a title the next few years.

Sacramento is also in play. So apparently, winning a title before he retires isn’t important to him. As long as he gets paid the amount he’s looking for.

Well I doubt our offer can match whatever crazy deal he'll most likely get as a FA in terms of money or length. Which is why you hear some non-contending teams are going for him.

So it was about the money all along ... disappointing to say the least, after all the money he’s made already as a professional athlete.

As I said in another thread I was never that big of a fan of Al mainly because of the production (or lack there of) for his contract. I put a lot of last years blame on him as he should have been the one in the locker room that made everyone cut the crap and focus on winning, but he was silent and just played his part. I think he was the one that Kyrie called out with his comment that the teams needs a 14-15 year vet to lead the team. Well the only guy we had close to that was Al and he isn't the vocal leader that we needed and paid him to be.

I can't say I begrudge a guy making a business decision, and I do appreciate what he did for us, but I agree he did not step up as a leader, and if he does sign for Dallas or Sacramento, then it will be obvious that $$ meant more than getting a ring.

Apparently, the door isn’t closed for Horford to return. I would love to have him back — at a much cheaper price. Him being there makes me a lot more comfortable and optimistic about our chance to win the East. Listen to what his sister Anna said about him in her podcast: forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1862013&start=940#p76917087Let’s see how this plays out.

I would take him back at the reported 45M over three years as that is where I see him being valued at. If we somehow did get him back, I would still love to trade Smart and whatever for Capela so we could play Al at his natural 4 position and it would give us a true rim protector and it would give Brown more minutes. I would also want to resign Morris too to come off the bench so we wouldn't have to play one of our core three guys at the 4 like Derren said in another thread against the larger size teams. Also now that we have Kemba, it is all about money if Al leaves because with him we will be a hell of a lot better without the cancer and Rozier with their agenda's.

It depends on what Horford thinks is within reason. I thought it was clear he thought the Celtics and him were not close, but he had to assume we wanted a friendlier contract for him so I’m unsure of how it came as a shock. Seems he wants 100mil over 4 years which is technically a “pay cut” from 30 mil a year but not much of a cut for us to resign him.
He’d be great to have for a smaller contract like the mentioned 45 over 3.. I think it’d be a big win if we could keep him and get Kemba.

I thought Horford was the perfect hub in Steven's wheel. We do not know what BOS offered. We do know he was injured, and a 4-year contract at his age is risky.

With the sign and trade of Rozier to the Hornets (3 years 58M) it gives the C's the flexibility to offer Al market value. So if he leaves it is all about the money which wouldn't surprise me. And MJ once again is terrible as nobody in their right mind would be paying Rozier 19.3M over three years.

Now it is being reported that Al still isn't considering the Celtics even though we have the room to sign him now. Don't let the door hit you on the !!!GREENIAC!!! on the way out Al.

What's the most we can offer him? I'd guess Ainge is hesitant to sign him to any 4 year deal which is probably the deal breaker. Good for Ainge. We don't need to stay locked into someone going into (or already on) their decline.
