Shooting is his one high level skill. Would prefer a more well rounded and versatile player.

9 days away from D-Day. Austin Ainge said they've narrowed their site upon 10 players -- I'll do better than that and say we're going to draft one of these 7 guys (if they are there): Donte Divincenzo Grayson Allen Rawle Alkins Deng Adel Jacob Evans Melvin Frazier Chandler Hutchinson Jerome Robinson Khyri Thomas I editted my list by taking off Jacob Evans (terrible shooting form, just watched his Lakers pre-draft workout), and replacing him with Melvin Frazier. Ok, editted my 6 guesses of the 10 players our brass has targeted with our late first round pick. I put Deng Adel in place of Rawle Alkins. Alkins doesn't seem like a naturally gifted offensive player -- just a tad mechanical, a split second too long in his decision making. Deng is a guy who just might be able to follow the steps of his former Louisville Cardinal teammate, Donovan Mitchell. Deng could get passed up by many teams, and be among the best rookies drafted. There's just a lot to like about Deng.

We can't rule out drafting-and-stashing a guy. Maybe our target, like back in '16 when we drafted Yabusele and Zizic, is to draft an international player who we keep overseas because our roster and salary are already close to being capped out.
Dzanan Musa? Elie Okobo?

Memphis will give you their [HASH]4 pick -- if only you'll take Chandler Parson and his remaining $49 million contract.
Yuck, that's too steep.

Yuta Watanabe is a 6'9" SF who can handle the ball well enough to bring the ball up and initiate an offense, has just enough athleticism and slippery-ness to make the NBA. A lefty who can knock down shots, including 3's. Was one of the best defensive players in his conference.
I just wonder how effective he can be with "just enough" talent. But at that height, with his all around 2-way game, would be a nice fit off the bench.

4 days away, and will post some random thoughts. With this ongoing Kawhi Leonard trade talks, the draft has lost some luster (as much luster you can have with the 27th pick). We just don't know if we'll keep this pick, or trade it as part of the Kawhi package. We're bringing in Jacob Evans for his second workout (as are the Warriors) -- which means we're intersted in him. I'm really stuck on the fence with Evans cause the workout video of him at the Lakers facility soured me on his jumpshot. I mean, check out this video and see how horrendous his shots are: www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0-_QXQpNm4But then when you look at this stats the past 2 years, he's hitting his FT's at roughly 74% and his 3's at 38-39%. Not that bad. Maybe he was purposely looking bad so that the Lakers won't draft him.

I read Bruce Brown is going to have another workout for us. He's another hard nosed defensive player who has some abilities on offense. Can handle the ball well enough to bring the ball up against pressure (i believe he was used as a PG at times for the Miami Hurricanes). His shot is a little funky.

I don't claim to know much about the potential draftees. Just what I read and can see on (heavily-edited) highlight reels. So take this for what it's worth.
If he's available, I think Danny will pick Mitchell Robinson. I know he's a total crap shoot, with some red flags, but from what I can tell he has the highest potential of anyone likely to be available at [HASH]27. Could be a wasted pick or a home run. Players picked at [HASH]27 rarely do much, so I think it's worth a shot.
If he's not available, the guy who jumps out at me is Khyri Thomas. Thomas looks like a prototypical 3 and D guy with an NBA-ready body, a relentless motor, and pretty good shooting stats. Not a bad replacement for Smart if he leaves or Danny doesn't want to pay him.
And my third pick is Grayson Allen. Danny said "When you watch him play, you see this fluidity and smoothness that not to many players have. His character is exactly what we want here.”

Mitchell Robinson, my concern with him is if he's got his head on straight. Something whacky about that guy.
Khyri Thomas, I think he's a real talent, but just missing that extra gear.
Grayson Allen, maybe the defense is not up to snuff. But the kid can play.

I can't argue with anything you say, Derren, but isn't anyone likely to be available at [HASH]27 flawed in some way?

I can't argue with anything you say, Derren, but isn't anyone likely to be available at [HASH]27 flawed in some way? Yup, and that's why they're falling to the low 1st, our out of it altogether. I'm just pointing out their flaws, not necessarily saying I'd pass on them. The way things are going, I'm having a hard time believing that Donte Divincenzo, and Grayson Allen are going to be there at 27. All we can hope for is to find a guy who has a correctable flaw, who can end up being a contributor for us down the line. I'd look for guys who have basketball IQ and legit NBA skills (translatable to the NBA) -- athleticism and speed are nice, but those come in second.

Would not surprise me if Danny selects a T. Rozier type of player. Someone who can play, however no one excepts BOS thinks can play.
