Zizic is in Boston and through physicals and working out and ready to play in Summer League according to WEEI. Good! For me to get the warm and fuzzy about his chances of one day being a productive starter in the NBA, I want to see him average 12 rpg in the summer leagues.

Probably won't get enough minutes for that, but I get your point.

Jordan Mickey has asked to be left out of summer league, so he can continue training on his own.
This guy is on a very short leash. If he doesn't show anything in preseason, it's time to cut him loose.

In baseball they'd call him a AAAA player. Good enough to star in AAA but not good enough to stick in the majors. If he makes the roster it will be as a low-cost scrimmage player.

I just don't understand the thinking of guys like Mickey and James Young. If I know I'm on the hot seat, and I have serious concerns about my future with the team, I'd be playing like a maniac whenever coach puts me in. I'd be fighting for every loose ball, I'd be sprinting on every change of possession, etc.
But when they played, they played loose and nonchalant.

It may be a case that the Celtics already have informed him they will not be bringing him back. To sign a max free agent the C's will have to cut him. If he was told this, he and his agent may think it would be better to avoid SL and the chance of injury that comes with it.

I wouldn't be too concern about Mickey or Young participating in the summer league. I doubt there will be any roster spots to keep them on the roster especially with the new rookies coming on board.

I think this goes back to your post about Danny going after "dogs". Some players just have that attitude to get better and to work every moment. They hustle and fight and do whatever they can to make themselves and the team better. Mickey, as much as I had hopes for him, just isn't that type of player. Neither is James Young. Gerald Green wasn't that type of player until years in Russia taught him he had to play with more fire and put the work in. Some players get it and some never do.

And how have they contributed since they were drafted? How much better have they become in that time frame?
I'm glad we are making this massive shift away from nonchalant players to dogs. This alone should pay off enormously.

Speaking of non-dogs.... R.J. Hunter was added to Blazers summer team Sadly, I've come to the realization that RJ isn't nearly as skilled as thought or expected. I don't see him sticking around in the NBA. What we are seeing Ainge drafting now are guys with skills who are real competitors (dogs).

The Celtics have brought in Croatian coach of BC Oostende Dario Gjergja to work with rookie Ante Zizic during summer league, per source. Was this to help Zizic transition to America, and the NBA? Or in the bigger picture, maybe this move is also to help future european guys we will be drafting.
