Markelle goes 1. At 2, Lakers surprise everyone by taking Fox (or even Ball).
So we are left with Tatum and Jackson.
If we're keeping the pick, which guy do you take?

I'm inclined to say Tatum at this stage.

I've been watching videos of both players and reading the draft gurus evaluations and it would be a tough pick for me. Jackson has the defense and pit bull attitude but Tatum has better offensive skills and a longer wingspan. I think I would lean a little toward Tatum but I'm very glad it's Danny making the pick and not me.

Looking over some stats, one thing that stands out is poor free throw percentages. Futz shot 65% and Jackson 57% from the line. What's up with that? I know that bigs often struggle for some reason, but a PG and a wing? Seems odd. Tatum stands out in that area and with his rebounding (something the Celtics greatly need. His 85% free throw shooting looks good, especially compared to 57% from Jackson.

Not sure how much I put into that though, only because Pierce's freshmen year, he shot 60%. But I do worry about Jackson -- there are a lot of moving parts in his jumper.
But it is a good sign that Tatum already is a good FT shooter.

It's hard to say based on Youtube highlights, but while Tatum may be a better shooter right now, Jackson looks to have elite athleticism while still having basketball skills. He looks more like a taller Jaylen Brown to me than say a Kedrick Brown. I think Jackson has the higher ceiling but Tatum might contribute sooner.

See, that's the part that I'm hung up on regarding Jackson. I don't know if I see a lot of basketball skills in him. He has athletic ability that helps him look good on the court, but I'm not sold on just that. There have been many explosive athletes that came into the NBA, but never panned out or had great careers.
But then again, I wasn't thrilled with Jaylen Brown last year, and now I have high hopes for him.

Jay Bilas, who is pretty knowledgeable and I respect his opinion said that although Fultz is ahead on most draft boards he thinks Tatum is more talented.

Go with Tatum for his offensive skill set. This roster need more shooters at the SF/PF spot.

So maybe Tatum is the one in Danny's sights. I saw where he said that his workout in Boston was a last minute thing but that he didn't elaborate beyond that.

Yep, between him and Jackson, I'd have to go with Tatum. Polished skills are greater than exciting athleticism.

Gerald Green had exciting athleticism...and see where that got us. He's finally a decent role player how many years later. I agree that you can't just go on a players athleticism.

Just saw this from one of the Globe writers. talking about Jackson... Seems that it's about half and half as to whether people think Danny takes Tatum or Jackson... It might be hilarious if Danny takes someone else no one thought about like he did with Rozier. Last year Kevin O'Connor was one of the few who predicted that Danny would take Brown. This year he has the Celtics taking Tatum.

We know he can bring it defensively. But it's his offensive game that is in question. Not as well rounded as Tatum.
If we draft Jackson, I'm afraid we're going to have two pitbull defenders in Marcus and Josh -- but also two limited offensive players who cannot create their own shots.

I wonder if Danny would draft him without seeing him in a workout. Seems to me that's a big strike against him. Danny has always held his cards close to his vest and I don't see him committing anything before the draft.
If Ford's info is correct, I'm wondering where his other promise is. If it was LA, it wouldn't matter if the Celtics guarantee that he's their guy at 3. That tells me that he has a promise after the Celtics pick at 3. Either that, or he just doesn't want to go to the Celtics like Ball.
And this from Ford also
Maybe it's the agent who doesn't want him going to Boston because of perceived lack of playing time available for him.
