One thing is clear. The deal isn't done yet. The 76ers are looking at Fultz tonight and his medical records. I assume the Celtics want to meet with Jackson and his agent and see his medical stuff. If we get through the weekend and the deal isn't essentially announced it could mean they are still in negotiations. There maybe could be an agreement in place on value where Ainge knows what he'd get but now he wants to flip it and if he can't he won't do it. One writer made a decent point that it doesn't really make much sense to trade for Jackson and picks if the real objective is getting Butler from the Bulls. In that case you could just trade Fultz for Butler and get a lot more too. That makes me think the objective would be to get Jackson AND someone else. I'm nervous Ainge is trying to get his cake and eat it too and might outsmart myself but I don't think he will exactly. They're saying even if a deal is agreed upon, it may not be announced till Monday.

I definitely don't think Ainge is trying to get future assets just for the sake of future assets. I don't think he's trying to trade down just to do it. I would think he either has a solid plan in place or he really wants Jackson more and is trying to get gravy. If that's the case I want to hear him really address that and take responsibility for it and say clearly "We felt this guy was the best player. That he will be the best player. We wanted him most. We think he's the best fit. We got extra to get exactly what we wanted. It was my decision." I do think Ainge is trying to secure future picks. With economics being a huge factor, drafting players and having good player development is key for continual success, instead of relying on signing expensive free agents. Draft, develop and trade is Ainge's motto.

To me the huge problem here is we start to have an old team
The 76ers would be looking at a four of Saric Simmons Fultz Embiid
going forward
Our only youth would be Jaylen, Smart, the 2018 pick, possibly another one, and Jackson.
I don't think that has a prayer of competing with the 76ers if they stay healthy
Horford is like 31. It is gonna be 28 or so. Hayward isn't that young any more.

I see one other possibility.....maybe it's a little like I said where Ainge is planning to trade down and then has a decent plan/agreement with someone like Sacramento to trade down again, and maybe even again. Get some decent picks and a decent player. Then pull the trigger on a trade. Then get Hayward. Add Hayward Butler J Isaac or Tatum or D Smith Pick up....picks from someone(s) Send out Avery Rozier J Crowder A couple picks In this dream scenario maybe the Bulls settle for Rozier, Avery, Crowder and our own 2018 and one of the Clippers/Memphis picks we got coming and a couple 2nd rounders I just don't think Butler is worth Rozier, Avery, Crowder, and a pick. I don't see how he's that much better than Crowder to be worth 3 solid players and a pick.

Which is the beauty of what we're doing.
We have a team made up of stars and role players in their prime, and we have young players with potential waiting on the wings, learning and developing the right way as the team as a whole goes deep in the playoffs year after year.
By the time the players in their prime are ready to move on, the once young players are now at the beginning of their prime ready to take over.

The only way Rozier, Avery, Crowder and a pick is worth Butler is if we don't have the intention to keep them long term because of their price tag. And if the players we draft can replace them and be cheaper alternatives.

But Crowder is signed for 3 more years at a very reasonable price...

Avery is on the last year of his contract I think. Jae isn't needed if we add Jackson and Hayward. We need to move guys like that to make salary space for an all star like Butler. Rozier is a guy that could get stuck far behind our other guards.
It's one of the only ways to add a max guy (Hayward) to another max guy (Horford). Then the next thing we do is go over the cap on IT. Then we go over the cap again on Butler (I think we'd have both their Bird rights). By that time I think the cap will be higher and maybe Horford only has a year to go before he leaves. By then we have someone like Smart or Jaylen to pay

But Crowder is signed for 3 more years at a very reasonable price... You don't win rings with role players signed for years at a reasonable price. Hopefully that's why other teams find him attractive so we can get an all star

So in the next 4 drafts that's 11 firsts.
I'd say we have the ammo to go get some really good stuff

Adrian Wojnarowski Verified account @wojverticalnba 1m 1 minute ago More Clarification on deal: Besides its 2017 FRP, Philly sends '18 Lakers pick w/ protections. If it doesn't convey, 76ers send 2019 Kings pick.
