Still think they would have offered a first rounder, which would be a better slot than the Mavs'. I'm pretty sure the Kings still owe the Bulls a first rounder, so I don't think they can trade their first round pick until the Bulls get one first.

Plus this year's play did not help his value -- in between some very good games were some not so good games, some 4th quarter struggles, and the digression of his free throw shooting. Add his upcoming free agency with the injuries and reputation, and I agree the market was fairly low.
When you consider the quote above by Perk that Rondo wanted out, and the Celtics probably felt under the gun to get something now.

ā(Rondo) wanted out, but he would never say that though,ā - Thunder center Kendrick Perkins said about his ex-Celtics teammate to Yahoo. ā Marc J. Spears (@spearsnbayahoo) December 19, 2014 I love this quote. This quote is for fans that believe everything a player or GM says. Not every player is going to come out and say " I want to be traded" to the media. I would bet DA and Rondo were both on the same page with this. I doubt this was a shock to Rondo. Don't believe all of what DA says, it's in the best interest of the team to keep some things close to his chest. One of the things I have loved about Perk all this time is his honesty and earnestness. He and Rondo are good friends and if Perk says that Rondo wanted out, I believe him. I believe Perk but I don't believe a word Danny has to say. I recall listening to him on the radio saying that the Celtics weren't even close on any trades and less than 30 minutes later the Wally Szczerbiak trade was announced. Then there was the Big Al thing where Al was complaining about his ankle all season and Danny kept making it sound like Al was just being a crybaby. Danny announced that Al was going to have it cleaned up a little even though there was nothing wrong. A few days later, Al was talking about his massive bone spurs that were removed. Then there was the Antoine Walker thing. It was right after taking over as GM and Danny said he was going to keep Antoine and had no intention of trading him. Then a week later, Antoine was gone. Danny keeps things so close to his chest that they are imprinted on it. I believe Perk, though. He's honest to a fault when he talks. So if Perk says that Rondo wanted out but wouldn't say it, I believe that Rondo wanted out. Perhaps he talked to Danny and asked him for a trade to a contender this season. We may never know but that sounds feasible to me. So it seems as though Rondo's a loyal guy. Danny's doing what's good for the team. Everybody comes out good. Except, Perk is too honest and spills the beans.

I knew the perception of Rondo was pretty low, but I didn't think it was THAT low. I'll be interested to see how the Mavs look now with Rondo and if he steps up his consistency playing for a contender.
