For those of you metal heads out there, Pantera's Dimebag Darrell (or recently of the groupDamageplan) was shot to death at a Ohio nightclub, where the band was on stage playing. A guy in a hooded sweatshirt walked into the nightclub while the band was playing, walked on stage and opened fire, killing Dimebag (age 38) and a few others.
Dimebag was a terrific guitarist. Just unbelievable at creating heavy chugging riffs and awesome lead work. His overuse of artificial harmonics was a little more than what I like, but his guitar playing was really a work of art.
RIP Dimebag.

You consider Sepultura "old school"? ;D If you like them, you'd like Soul Fly.
Since you are in europe, have you heard of this band called, Am I Blood? I think they're Scandanavian. Anyways, good guitar work and the vocalists voice is very much like James Hetfield's.

am i blood? not yet but i check it out. i think soul fly is all about one man who used to be cult hero in metal circles but let his ego come between him and his bros. and ever since he left sepultura he repeatedly milks the same old ideas. that's why i don't like him so much

Yeah, Max is a bit ego-centric. I'm not into Metal like that, though. I like to be able to understand the words and sing along to the song and not just yell with the mic in my mouth ;D
I like Slayer's guitar work, but hate what they stand for. Kerry King is a ruthless guitarist.

Don't know the bands you mentioned, but I am a big fan of female vocalists. I love Veruca Salt, Bif Naked, and even Avril Lavine. Tony Iommi has a solo album with a lot of top artists singing vocals on the songs he written (among them Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, Dave Groehl from Foo Fighters, etc.). And there's this one girl named Skunk Anasi (sp?) who does an incredible vocal job on the song that I just love. It's dark and moody and she does a perfect job with the song.

The title of the album is "Iommi".
Sorry, I made a boo boo on the female vocalist. Her name is Skin. I think I got Skunk Anansie mixed up with her.
But it's a terrific album, nonetheless. Iommi has always been one of my favorite guitarists. One of my all time favorite heavy metal song is "into the void" from Sabbath.

Dimebag was great. I have about 4 Pantera cds. Panteras obviously split. I do picture Phil Anselmo joining up with former Soundgarden members for some reason though. It would be a good mix. Yeah, Max is a bit ego-centric. I'm not into Metal like that, though. Kerry King is a ruthless guitarist. Max rules!. Soulfly is great overall. Their new cd doesn't sound too good like the first 3 though. Primitive has more diversity in it. John Lennon son Sean sang in one song with Max. This underground rap group did also in the song "we are what we are". Primitives the best cd. Their s/t is not far behind at all. I don't follow Sepultura much really. I had a few cds but not with max in them. EYE FOR AN EYE! As far as Slayer, I never bothered to get into them. Judas Priest is more my style. I'm into punk and indie mostly and not as much metal as you guys probably are.

hey john, primitive is one hell of a album indeed. the best soulfly by far, unfortunately max has copied himself in his latter two albums. it would have been better for everybody if sepultura had stayed together. separately neither of them are half as good you know "f***ing envy changes everything"

as far as slayer is concerned i know it's hard to get into it and i'm not very big of a fan either but man... if you want to listen to some really intensive metal guiter riffs then i recommend "god hates us all". it's just unbelievable what they've put together there
