6'11" PF Ryan Kelly is said to have signed with us.
Insurance in case Olynyk's shoulder injury doesn't heal properly? Maybe they see something in him, or something about his shooting form that makes them think they can improve him beyond the 33% 3pt FG% he's shown.

LOL I was posting about this at the same time you were posting this. I deleted my post but this is what I posted
Ok, color me puzzled by this one. The Hawks released Kelly, a 6'11" power forward that they signed for training camp. He was a 2013 2nd round pick (48th) by the Lakers. Over his career he has appeared in 147 games playing 20 minutes per game and averaging 6.5 points and 3.3 blocks. He shot 38% from the field and 31% from beyond the arc.
The Celtics are already one over the limit of 15 players before this signing and have to trade or cut a first round pick of their own and they just signed another player.
My best guess is that they had planned on assigning Bentil to an affiliated player slot in Maine but now he wants to look elsewhere for an opportunity and so possibly they plan on sending Kelly to Maine in place of Bentil. Other than that, it doesn't make much sense.
Danny seems to go after guys who have a big game against the Celtics. He scored 20 points in his rookie year against the Celtics but other than that, he really hasn't done much.

That makes sense, FL. Kelly hasn't proved himself at the NBA level, so going to Maine and cutting his teeth there is his opportunity to show what he can do.

Kelly was waived today and I suspect he will be an affiliated player with the Red Claws.
