I had my first look at Sully in a Raptor shirt last night. He looked really good, dropped another 20 pounds and was the best big on the floor. Playing next to JV is perfect for him, the Raptors will be a much tougher team this season. The most amusing part was the Canadian announcers comparing him to Amir, saying they hoped he could bring a little of Amir's value.
And Golden State looked terrible. The splash brothers can still shoot, but KD looked lost and with Bogut gone they have no interior defense. Pachulia is not a capable replacement. KD is playing SF, rotating with Iggy, but he cannot defend opposing 3's on the perimeter and he can't handle like Iggy. The team was much better with KD on the bench.

My take on Sully, and Zeller is that management was tired of Sully being Sully (like overweight), and Zeller was a like a cap hold for future use.

My guess is there may have also been some locker room issues we aren't privvy to.

The fact is he lost weight .. The truth is management makes mistakes. Judges players. Is hypocritical in letting one player coast while judging another.. Truth is they let a young talented HARDWORKING YOUNG PLAYER GO FOR NOTHING! rebounds require effort.. Apparently management doesn't value post defense or rebounding.. Simple as that

Sully lost weight last off season also. He spent the summer working with John Lucas and got in great shape. However by the playoffs, he had gained the weight back and was over 300 lbs again and struggled to get up and down the court by the end of the games and his production fell off at the end of the season as well. Yes he lost weight again and looks great to start the season but there has been no indication that he can stay in shape for an entire season. Last season was, in effect, a contract year and he didn't do it. I like Sully and really hope he can beat the weight and stay in shape now but he hasn't shown that he could as yet because it's been the same thing every season so far.
Only time will tell if the Celtics made a mistake by letting him go. But there have been players who haven't been able to stay in shape but hopefully being let go has given Sully the motivation he needs to stay in shape. He's on a one year contract now and so that should also be motivation since it's a contract year for him again.
