Yeah, it was time KG. You aren't one of those legends who lingered on until you embarrassment. You kept your word that you would retire when you couldn't play at a high level anymore.
You are one of the greatest of all time. You'll go down as a legend.
But whose jersey will you wear when you enter the hall? You spent most of your career with Sota, but the championship ring came during your 6 years with us.

Interesting question about the HOF. I guess we will have to wait and see. KG is truly one of a kind and he will be missed in the league if for nothing else than his interviews. I have a feeling that he will be in the NBA in one form or another eventually. Maybe coach, maybe front office. I think basketball is in his blood.
The league lost Kobe, Duncan and now KG all in the same year. They will all be missed, but KG most of all.

You don't really wear a jersey when you enter the basketball HOF, unlike say the baseball HOF, where your plaque shows you in a specific team hat.

Its a shame management didn't do more.. We should have won 2-3 with him.. You keep saying that, but the simple truth is that injuries were what derailed this team in 2009 and 2010. KG himself was injured in 2009, and Perk went down early in Game 6 of the 2010 Finals, with the Celtics holding a 3-2 lead. Not to mention Artest kneeing Ray in the thigh in Game 3.

It was the stupid trade of Perkins. It was management's lackadaisical approach.. They never replaced Posey let tony Allen walk.. They rested on number 17.. They didn't build a bench.. It wasn't injuries.. It was management..

Wrong. By the 2011 season the Heat were the dominant team in the East, and it's a stretch - to say the least - that we "should" have won during those years. Nobody "rested" on 17.

A lot of Celtics fans follow this narrative, and to me it's revisionist history at it's finest. The Heat were clearly the better team. And Perkins was a hobbled mess in 2011. Dude was just coming off major reconstructive knee surgery. He wasn't going to be enough to chance that series around.

It wasn't injuries.. It was management.. Letting Posey go was smart. Dude had one solid year after leaving boston. That was 2009, the year KG missed the playoffs. We arent winning a title without KG, Posey or no Posey. Posey fell off a cliff pretty quick. He prolly wouldn't have been part of the rotation after 2009. He had been cut and the Pacers were still paying him. And all reports indicate that the Celtics offered Tony Allen the same amount of money as Memphis did, if not more. Memphis could offer Allen a starter's minutes. The Celtics could not. Them's the breaks. Nothing Celtics management could do about that. And the C's were so far over the cap in those days they only could use the MLE and LLE in free agency. And it's not like the C's management just gave DA a blank check. He couldn't just offer full MLE deals every off-season.

We will never know what would have happened if we had kept those two OR been more aggressive in getting talent around the big 3.. I would take our big 3 over Miami's any day..
It's easier to build a team that wins it once than a dynasty.. There are always options.. Like many teams in the past we settled.. Were we knocking on people's doors at midnight when free agency came? Or sitting at home drinking beers and crying that damm salary cap..
Trading Perkins cost this team.. Nothing came back lmao.. Kristina and Mr inconsistent? Maybe some was bad luck.. But champions make their own.. How does New England do it every year? One reason was Tom Brady restructuring his contract.. Stop making excuses!! There are aggressive ways to get the job done.. We were passive..

The Patriots didn't win the year they lost Brady in Game 1. They didn't win the years Gronk was hurt. And they didn't win when Solder was injured and Von Miller ran wild. Injuries are a HUGE part of who wins each year. It's not excuses. It's reality. And it's true in every sport.
