My latest column on the Celtics Green blog....
I've been enjoying reading the reports about Isaiah Thomas and his new friend Robbie McNulty. In case you haven't seen it, Robbie is a 14 year old who was shooting baskets all by himself after his first day of high school. Isaiah was walking by and saw him shooting and went over to shoot baskets with him. With that one moment of kindness, Robbie went from a kid trying to make friends in a new school situation to the most popular kid in school.
But the story doesn't end there. Robbie was invited to go on Good Morning America to talk about his experience. He got a laugh when he said that he saw someone walking by but didn't pay much attention because he didn't look very tall. Then Isaiah came up to him and he was speechless at first. Robbie had posted a picture of Isaiah on Twitter and titled it The GOAT, so he's definitely a fan.
I know that my grandson loves Isaiah. He's the shortest in his class and Isaiah's success gives him a lot of encouragement that he can do whatever he sets his mind to and works for. He loves Kelly too- I think it's the hair. He named his goldfish Kelly and Isaiah. I'm really hoping that Danny doesn't trade either one of those guys because it will break his heart. I know I still haven't gotten over Perk being traded. I may never get over it. I still watch every game Perk plays along with every Celtic game.
I posted that keeping up with Gerald Green was one of my guilty pleasures over the years since he was traded. Brad Stevens is a fan of his and mentioned his "spurtability" as a reason he expects him to help the team. Isaiah Thomas played with Gerald in Phoenix and shared the floor for 15.5 minutes per game. Their offensive rating was 109.6 when they played together and that's pretty impressive. Isaiah is excited to have him with the team and believes he can really help with his ability to score and created his own shot.
I just read that Chris Bosh may be cleared to play with the heat this season. I hate the Heat, I really do. but I can't help but like Bosh. He seems like a nice guy and having just gone though a blood clot in my lungs and now have to take blood thinners, I really feel for the guy. Having a blood clot in your lung is a scary thing and I really wish the best for him, even if it's going back and playing for the Heat.
It won't be long now until we have Celtics basketball to talk about. First day of training camp is September 27, just 15 days away. It's just 44 days until the season opener. I'm so excited for this season and can't wait for it to start. But then again, I feel that way every season. The Celtics and coaches have been hanging out this summer and building great chemistry. I can't wait to see how that translates to the court.
