Al Horford was drafted [HASH]3 by the Hawks in 2007, just one pick after Kevin Durant. He's a 4 time NBA All-Star, and was an All-NBA 3rd teamer in 2011.
For his career, he's been a 14 and 9 guy (plus nearly a steal and over a block per game), and his past 2 years, playing next to Paul Milsap, he's averaged 15 and 7.
His stats are not eye popping, but some players mean more than just their stats.
Where do you rank Horford currently among the NBA's top players?

If we're going by now and not the future, I'd put him right around [HASH]20. Dude does so much to help a team win.

Not sure there are enough choices for me. I certainly don't think he is that high.. He is a good player. But when you talk about against others in a head to head.. Wonder where ESPN ranks him..

I'd say around [HASH]20 also. He's one of those players who does so much more than his stats show. I believe that he's a difference maker.

I'm guessing around 20ish. Like NBA 3rd team is top 15 guys. So would he be 4th team? Or 5th? He'd be in there somewhere

I'm hearing how he impacts the game without it showing up on box scores. If this turns out to be true, he's a major upgrade over Sullinger.

Well he isn't a fantasy league all star. I hope so to. I feel guilty somewhat by looking just at stats. It's true that players do make a difference in a game more than the stat sheet. Thanks for that reminder.

Apparently, one of those things he does that doesn't show up in box scores is how he screens for his teammates. If you read that article JMost linked from Celticsblog, Horford learned the subtle nuance of being deceptive with screens so that the defender won't know until the last second which side he's screening.
Stuff like that gets a teammate an easier look at the basket, but Horford won't get credited with an assist, even though he did assist on the play.

Do you think we have a player on the roster that will excel in pick and roll?

Hoping that will be Horford. He and IT may be a match made in heaven.

A lot of people were down on Perk back in the day because he didn't fill up the box score but that wasn't his role. He set great screens to get his teammates open. He also was very good at boxing out under the basket which allowed teammates to get the rebounds. He also changed many shots without touching the ball just by his presence. I watched him a lot in games and when he was on the court, the team scored more, even if he didn't. And they also got more rebounds when he was on the court. He was one player who did influence the game without it showing in the box score. From what I have read and heard, Horford will also affect the game without it necessarily showing up in the box score.

I think Rozier could be another guy who could be effective in a pick and roll. He shoots well enough so that if the defender goes under the pick TR could make him pay, but also quick enough to get to into the paint if the defender tries to fight through.

If Rozier can ever improve his ability to finish he's gonna be very good at PnR play.

Yeah, that would be good for him to have in his tool belt.
More than that, if he can learn the pull up right inside the free throw line (roughly two dribbles after the screen), he's going to find lots of scoring opportunities.
