Head to head, Pierce is the better scorer because he can score in more ways than Ricky.
But if Pierce leaves because Ainge decides this team needs a defensive presence (currently, we are discussing the scenario of Greg Oden, the highly touted high school player who is said to have dominating defensive potential, being drafted by us. But you could insert Ben Wallace's name here also), do you feel Ricky will be able to step up and pick up the scoring void left by Pierce's departure?
He is an explosive scorer, but he doesn't get to the line nearly as much as Pierce does.

I say they both should be on the All-Star team, as Celtics, this year... Next season, who knows.

So what do you think of our chances to carry on without Pierce's scoring? Will Ricky and Co. (meaning Jefferson, Gerald Green, Blount, Raef, Delonte, Gomes, etc) be enough for us to continue being a strong offensive team?
Can Ricky become a more dangerous scorer if he's our go to guy?

We would have a very hard time scoring in close situations this year without pierce. He is the guy that makes defenses collapse. Without him wed be an awful team this year, not that thats a really bad thing.

I think Ricky's success is due to having Pierce, not that he's not talneted, of course, but playing together with Pierce opens both of them up. Teams can't defend both at the same time. That is why they are both averaging 20 points a game. Pierce is the better offensive player overall.
If Ricky were here by himself, he would probably put up 25 points a game, but he would not be as efficient. His field goal percentage would go way down, because he would have to force too many shots with no one to help him. I'm sorry to dissappoint guys, but the youngen's are WAY inexperienced, and not ready enough. Big Al is still a year or two away. It is blatantly obvious.
Ricky cannot penetrate as well as Pierce either, so he would not get to the line nearly as much.
Here's to hoping Pierce and Davis have a wonderful season together. It's the guys around them that need to be more consistent. Especially our point guard play, rebounding, and DEFENSE.
Lately I have been sick to my stomach, giving up 110 points a night.......

Gave you a Karma point for that one Esco.
Playing the devil's advocate here, but if Jefferson emerges as a scorer and Gerald Green does so also, wouldn't teams have a hard time focusing on Ricky?
Ok, the reason why I'm bringing this up is not because I want to trade Pierce (I like the scoring punch we get from the Pierce and Ricky tandem), but because we desperately need a real defensive big man, and not just a serviceable one like Mark and Raef. And Pierce is probably the only one who can bring one in. With a stronger defensive unit, anchored by a dominant defensive big man, we won't need to score as much we have to now because teams won't be scoring as much on us as they are now (we scored 117 pts against the Hawks on 55% shooting, including 11 - 19 from beyond the arc, and we still lost!!!).
