Most of the best free agents are gone. Celtics got Horford which is a huge step forward. We still need a scorer. RJ Hunter or even Young could possibly be that scorer. I think Hunter has more of a chance because his game is more rounded than Young. Perhaps one of the draft picks. Bentil and Yabusele are both good shooters.
I'd much rather take a chance on our young guys developing than to go out and overpay for a second tier player. There is always a trade. I've seen a lot of smoke lately surrounding Cousins. And of course there is the Jimmy Butler stuff but I think he's staying in Chicago. It will be interesting to see what Danny does now.
Durant's decision to join the Warriors is so disappointing on so many levels. He's not the kind of person I thought he was.

Maybe sign someone to a 1+1 contract to keep the flexibility. But nothing big, we are already the second best team in the East and that is something we can build on and get players that want to be a part of something special next year.
I really want to put a team together now and beat Golden State for a title. If they even get there with no depth that is.

This is the million dollar question, isn't it. What are we going to do, or who are we going to spend our a available cap space on?
We have max money to offer, and limited roster space (meaning it doesn't make sense to sign 3 players divying up the max).

So is there a chance Durant leaves GSW after this year? Are we going to attempt to do this all over again?
If that's the case, then we need to have salary flexibility next summer. No max player on 4 year deals. It'll need to be the 1 + 1 signings.

Frankly hes spurned us once and as a fan, I'm inclined to give him the middle finger and say we move on. Thats speaking from the heart and not from the mind whose still saying this is one of the top players in the league. From here? I'd be looking to see what we have in Brown and to see if there are any opportunities out there to trade for a top tier player at either the 4 or 5 spot.

No max player on 4 year deals. It'll need to be the 1 + 1 signings. I don't want him now, but there is no way that Golden State can pay all of their "Big 4." Curry is getting around 12M right now, with Green and Thompson getting 15/16M. All of those guys are going to get paid between 26-30M a year so there is no chance of them staying together if they all don't take pay cuts. I don't see Green as the type to take a pay cut because he memorized the 34 players that were drafted ahead of him because he feels disrespected, which tells me that he thinks that he should have been the [HASH]1 overall pick. It sounds like they are renouncing Barnes rights and are looking to trade Bogut to the Mavs with him. That gives them a starting lineup of Curry/Durant/Thompson/Iggy/Green with Livingston coming off of the bench and 5M to pay for the rest of the bench. So I don't think they can keep this team together and this may be a one year run for them. With that said, once again I don't want him if we weren't his [HASH]1 choice. He may be ok with being the sidekick, but this is the Boston Celtics and we are nobody's [HASH]2 and we will get [HASH]18 without him. As I said before I prefer winning it by beating him.

I hear the Mavs are talking about taking on Bogut's contract to help the GSW fit Durant in...why they are doing this, I have no idea. Helping your opponent makes no sense.

Yeah, helping your opponent doesn't make sense but if Cuban thinks that Bogut can really help them and fills a need I can see him doing it strictly from a selfish point of view.

Is it time again to consider Kevin Love?
His value is low now, Cleveland won a championship so the pressure is somewhat off of them (Channing Frye can basically do what they're asking Love to do), and we've had interest in him before.
Say CLE would trade Love for a future 1st round + James Young and a sign and trade with Jared Sullinger (an Ohio kid).
Would you guys entertain the thought of a frontcourt of Horford and Love?

I thought Love played too soft..he could barely handle Draymond Green. Defensively he was a major liability and his one strength - rebounds - wasn't even apparent in the Finals. Not to mention his multiple injuries. And given that the BKN 1st rounder is likely a high one..I can't see Love being worth that unless we're talking about one of our lower 1st rounder then yeah. Thing is the Cavs are above the cap line and they have no incentive to trade Love since it doesnt give them room to improve.

But do you feel Love would improve us? I mean, if we could get him without touching too much of our core, would he make us better? Or not?

What's love got to do with it? Second hand emotion! Someone in this thread asks why would Dallas get boguts and help g.s.? Why would we get love? And help Cleveland? I don't want love unless he is free. Pay to get him? Nope not me.. If you trade it better be well thought out.

I'd be all for buying low on Love. I mentioned a Love for Thomas/Amir Johnson trade a while back, and I would still be up for it. The 2017 draft is really PG heavy. Sign a vet PG on a one year deal this year, then go into next year and either draft a PG with the nets pick or go after a big time PG in free agency. I love IT, but that dude is gonna be up for a big payday in 2018, and I don't want the Celtics to be the team to give a max deal to a 5'8" player.

What about offering Wade a 1 + 1 at less that the max but more than the $20 mil Miami is offering? He is coming of a solid year and would give us another scorer, plus can mentor our younger players re championship basketball. Plus he would love to punk LeBron in the playoffs.

I just saw that Wade is in serious talks with the Cavaliers. Maybe they would Jettison Love for a future first and Young. Just to clear more space to bring in Wade because as it has been said they have Frye to do all they asked of Love and he's kind of a third wheel there and not in a good way.
Love isn't one of my favorite players, however because he is a defensive liability. Several times I've seen him give up more points than he scored because teams kept going at him and scoring. But He's kind of expensive. He's got 4 more years on his contract with the 4th year being a player option and is making between 21 and 25 million a year. That's pretty steep for a player who can help on offense but is a defensive liability. For me, I'd rather look for a 2 way player who can help on offense and play good defense as well.
And a KP to oldtimeball for the music references... Good one!
