And I'm 100% confident Ainge has looked at these opportunities next year as well.

Horford is 30, we're in win-now mode whilst we still have guys on team friendly contracts. I say trade. Trade for Butler or trade for Paul George.

Ainge is trying to put us in position to win a title -- but not necessarily this year. Horford made sense because he wouldn't cost us players or picks, we needed to spend money anyways so why not on a player who fits with the team and fits our system, and is also a player who plays a position of need.
Horford just made sense. If he wasn't a free agent, I don't think Ainge goes after Horford.

First I've been trying to log in since we got Horford, and only finally got in. ...
I don't think we over paid for him, petals we would have over paid this past season trading picks them giving this contract, or if a sign and trade was on the table worn draft picks, but we got a guy fanny had wanted for a while, should fit our offense, and was going to make this kind of money anyway. ..
If no KD we will have to come up with a plan B obviously, but other guys will be more willing to come play here if they have any say as to where they get traded ala garnet. It's s big move to be one elite player away from contending, and that is where the Celtics are now.

my concern is that we missed a window of opportunity. I respect being all in for Durant. But my heart kept saying that he wasn't coming and we missed out on some really good opportunities. I am not content to wait till next year... There is no guarantee those picks will be that high. Now all that is left is crumbs. We lost Turner. What are you going to do now trader Danny?
Al's signing did nothing.. Anyone would take our max.We needed fireworks! We need to be a destination... We need to go to the finals this year!

Horford won't make us a 60 win team, but he's a step in the right direction.
Who would you rather have us gone after with a realistic shot at getting?

That's a great looking back question. I think we should have been more aggressive with the draft. Trades.
I remember listening to all the free agents being signed and said we're missing out. I am not happy with the structure of the team. A bunch of good players. No true point guard with veteran leadership. No true center.. Rebounding. Esp. offensive rebounding.. In the playoffs you must be able to create in the half court.. Defenses tighten up..
I know.. No names... But that's what I wanted. lol

No, we don't have a true PG, but maybe by design. Brad wants positionless players. We do have ball handlers, which is what Brad utilizes.
No, we don't have a true Center, though we did pick up an intriguing prospect in Ante Zizic.

I think Horford makes us around a 55 win team give or take a few games. That is why we are one more star from being a 60+ win team and title contender. I like the flexibility for now because we got rid of the stigma of being a place where free agents don't want to come. Now we just have to show even more improvement and go from there. Of course if an opportunity comes along where we can improve and it is cost effective, then Danny has to look at that trade. But we don't want to be like the Fakers and just sign guys to bloated contracts just because we have cap space. That is how you become the Milwaukee Bucks or Atlanta Hawks.

I hope we can use the rest of our cap space on a decent player on a one year deal, and then go and attack free agency again next year.

I'm not sure why we needed to make it to the Finals next year. We have a young core so there is no time clock ticking against us. Al Horford makes us better without hindering our ability to build for the future. After next year's further jump in the cap his contract will look like what the former max deals look like now - a relative bargain.

Like you guys said, keep our core intact, keep building through the draft, keep adding key free agents, and make a trade only when it makes sense.
We finally have cap space, after years of being burdened with dead weights. Don't go blowing it all only to be hindered again.
Fresh, any idea who we could get a 1 + 1 for?

I agree with this completely. Keep this core together. Let them grow. Jettison players that don't improve like James Young to bring in free agents or new rookies who show promise in Summer League. 1+1 contracts make the most sense, whoever it is, unless somehow we could trade for a difference maker.

We need to learn to win in the postseason. It took Jordan awhile .. We need veteran leadership. AlH is a good player but a leader?
Even with garnet.pierce, allen we relied on veteran help. You simply cannot go far with all rookies.
