Welcome to Celtics Green oldtimeball!!! No offense, but I just don't like Wade and for the most part last season he was shooting terribly from outside. I still haven't forgiven him for dislocating Rondo's elbow way back when.
I'd rather not overpay for Butler. I personally think he's a bit overrated. If we could get him without giving up half the team and all of our draft picks then ok but I don't want to gut the team just to get Butler. I personally don't think he's all that much better than Jae.
Crawford and Gasol is a tempting choice. I'd have to work really hard not to hold Pau's years as a Laker against him though. But I could probably do that since he has the Bulls buffer in there. If we could get them on a 1+1 contract like we did with Johnson and Jerebko, that would be good and then we would still have cap space next off season too since they aren't long term answers but temporary fixes.
I think I'd rather get someone else who is young and a good shooter and let our young guys have a chance to develop. After all, we should be getting another top pick next year and there will be a whole new crop of free agents.

I went with Gasol just because I think we need bigs pretty bad right now. Also because you don't have to trade anything to get him

I can't stand dirty Dwayne and don't think he deserves to wear Celtic green. Which of course puts me at odds during college football season because his wife is also a Nebraska football fan. So they come to at least one game a year.

I can't vote for any of those. My option would be to stay the course.
Horford made sense, and because we didn't have to trade players or draft picks to get him, I don't mind paying what we did for him.
But getting Butler would mean we'd have to trade good players and high draft picks to get him.
Wade? I just don't like him much.

As much as I hold on to my love of players like Perk and Leon Powe etc, I hang onto grudges when a player hurts one of our guys. Wade hurt Rondo and I'll always believe that it was on purpose. I just don't like him.
I'm pretty much with you Derren. I'd like them to play the young guys and see them get better. I wouldn't mind signing a guy or two to one year contracts or 1+1 contracts for next season. I don't want to overpay for just anyone. If not Durant, stay the course and keep our flexibility and assets.

Who is out there that is a scorer? A proven winner. A veteran leader. That's one area the C's lack I think. What if wade had done that as a Celtic? would you accept that incident?

The weird thing about it is if we did sign Wade, I'd accept him and embrace him, and cheer for him. But as long as he's not wearing a C's uniform, I don't like him.
But I also have concerns about the health of his knees. Can they hold up another 2 years? Even another year? Will playing home games in the cold northeast be too much for his knees?

And also, we are not in any great rush to win a title this year. If we don't add Durant, then we go into the season with last year's team + Horford. We make the playoffs as a top 3 seed and see how far we get.
Then get another high lottery pick and go for another big free agent next summer. We should be an even more attractive destination for free agents next year, when we prove we are a legitimate to wrestle with.

As much as I hate Wade and hate the coddling he gets and the dirty stuff he gets away with if he did it for us instead of against us I might be able to deal with that.

It is KD or bust when it comes to spending big money. I think we are a 55 win team now with the addition of Horford. If we get someone one a 1+1 deal where we can open up that salary next year and keep our flexibility then I wouldn't mind singing a guy or two, but only if we can cut them next year and have the flexibility to sign two more max players next year. Because as you said, we should be even more attractive to FA's next year. I think we are the #2 seed if we can stay healthy this year with the addition of Horford. If we get KD, then we are the team to beat it the East. |

In 2017 we could throw a max at someone like Blake Griffin and then another fairly large contract at someone else. Like possibly Paul Milsap or Serge Ibaka. Another thing you could do is possibly send a large offer to a restricted guy....like say Dieng in Minnesota. Realistically a team like that needs to save money for some very large contracts coming down the pike such as KAT and Wiggins and maybe Dunn eventually.

Another thing that could happen is a guy could emerge. Let's say a guy like...a fairly young Steven Adams. You could make him a large offer and force OKC to match it or let him go. And be like "If you get our guy we get yours." They are paying Kanter a lot and need to pay Oladipo now.
