It even came out of all of your mouths at one time also. Our team needs the lottery (top 5 picks) . Not mediocrity. These are options: We can keep Pierce and give him no supporting cast while we're rebuilding. We can keep our supporting cast minus Paul Pierce.
The most logical thing is that Pierce and Ricky can't lead this team to #17. Its gonna have to take 3 years of rebuilding I believe. Getting 3 or 4 solid players who arent as good as Paul Pierce but are damn good (Hinrich, Deng, Adam Morrison and guys like that).
This means keeping Big Al, Perkins and Gerald and Ricky maybe but even if Pierce is doing the right things out there, his teammates are too mediocre to win anything right now. Pierce just isn't a lead a team to a championship type player. Not with our current team. Plus, while rebuilding, we could get our big we're wishing for (A Chris Bosh type, Sheldon Williams, Oden etc.....). Were sure as hell not gonna get a Sheldon Williams with yet another 15th pick. Clevelands draft pick isn't going lottery either so that won't be much help. I honestly feel that Danny is gonna try every option he can with Pierce and Ricky and if he sees in 2 yrs that its not getting anywhere, he may change the landscape and rebuild fresh. This means keeping 1 of the 2 (most likely Ricky). As much as I want to see PP retire a celtic, he may not. Just for championship reasons. If our team wants to play mediocre each season, then keeping Pierce should happen but if a new foundation is set with new top 5 draft picks ( a big man would come out of it too), Pierce would have to be moved and everyone knows that good big men like the Sheldons and Odens are more important than scoring guards. I have no clue what to think. Starting fresh may be the only way to get #17 with another 3 yr drought of not making the playoffs then being contenders and attracting other big names in the process.
