Watched some Cal games this year, watched Brown's highlights, and I just don't see him living up to the hype.
No doubt the athleticism is there, and the open court breakaway dunks that excite the crowd is there, but there are so many things I don't see that makes me hesitant about drafting him at 3.
First off, there's the lack of creativity with the ball in his hands. Next, there's the frequent clueless offensive possessions he wastes. Then there's the tendency to bull rush into defenders and put up awful shot attempts. There's more flaws that I just can't articulate right now.
In lots of ways, this reminds me of the 2014 draft when we took Marcus Smart. We had a high drsft pick then, like we do now, but we ended up taking a player with lots of limitations.
No denying Marcus' effectiveness on defense, but every where else, he leaves lots to be desired. His PG skills are still below average, and his offense is nothing special, especially his perimeter shooting. Not exactly the impact I was hoping for out of a 6th pick, and I don't have high hopes that he'll ever become an impact offensive player.
I worry that I'll be disappointed with Jaylen Brown too if we take him this high in the draft.

A lot of mocks have the Celtics picking Brown. But then again quite a few have Bender as the pick and a few have Dunn. I don't think anyone has a clear picture of what the Celtics will do. A lot of the mocks that have Brown at 3 are pointing to the second workout that the Celtics brought him back for.
