In all probability, you are correct. But if it happens, would you pull the trigger? Does it make snese to do it?

What about the rest of you? Would you trade our best offensive player to get a guy who could be a dominant defensive player?

Truth to tell, I have never even seen highlights of Greg Oden, so I don't have enough of a feel for him to trade away Pierce. If he is the "next great center" (say, a Tim Duncan or David Robinson caliber) then it would be worth Paul and a #1 to get him.

I totally feel the same way. I feel that our offense will still be quite strong, even without Pierce, because we'd still have Ricky, and hopefully Jefferson and Gerald Green fulfill their potentials as scorers. And with the added defense we'd get from Oden (and with the return of Tony Allen, and the development of Perkins, Justin Reed, and Orien Greene), we'd be better equiped to shut teams down.
If you look at the Spurs, as awesome as Tim Duncan is (its just amazing how he can make shots when the team most needs it), they don't need him to score big for them to be champions. He's only a career 21 ppg scorer (or in that vicinity). And Manu and Parker don't scorer big either. Its a combination of players sharing the scoring load and the team collectively playing strong defense.

And this is completely off the subject, but how freaking good is Dwight Howard gonna be? His stat lines are already amazing and he hasnt developed a real offensive game yet. Mark my words, he will someday put up a 30/18/3 season. Hes gonna be the next moses malone.

I totally agree. Watching him in the McD's All-Star game, you could tell that he was the best one on the floor by a wide margin and you could immediately see that he was so much better than Kwame Brown ever was or ever will be (I believe the commentators were making that comparison). He's got so much body control and so much explosiveness, and he's so polished for such a young one. Hard to believe that he's already this good being this young. And he gets little recognition from the media. Super nice guy, you'd think David Stern would be marketing him all over the world.
