The NBA just announced that the Salary cap will rise to 94 million from 70 million it was for 15-16 season. The tax level will be $113 million. That is a big increase. Maximum salaries for 2016-17: 0-6 years = $22,200,000; 7-9 years = $26,600,000; 10+ years = $31,000,000.
The Celtics will have to pay more for a max level player but will also have plenty of room for a couple of them. It also means that players on good contracts like AB, Crowder, IT and others and players on rookie contracts will be worth even more.
The Celtics are in great shape. They have 8 draft choices with 3 in the first round and 2 very high second round which are very valuable.
They have plenty of cap space but then again other teams will have a cap space now that it has been raised so high.

Lots of teams will be throwing money around, and the going rate for decent players will be absurd.

Agreed Derren. A lot of players will be overpaid. Hopefully Danny will avoid that temptation to overpay players. We have some very good players on excellent contracts now and I hope he keeps them.

Does anyone have the official amount of cash we have to spend this off season?

The nearest I can figure is that the Celtics have $33,971,629 in guaranteed contracts for next year including the qualifying offers to Sully and Zeller. They have $59,975,117 in salary including the non guaranteed contracts of Amir Johnson, Jonas Jerebko and John Holland. The Salary Cap for this next season is expected to be $94 million with the luxury cap at 113 million.
So depending on whether they keep Amir and Jerebko and whether they extend the qualifying offers to Zeller and Sully, they could have around 50 million or more in cap space.

That is a lot of money and I hope DA uses it wisely. I have faith that he will do the right thing and get us back to being a real contender sooner rather than later.

Just don't spend it just because you can. The worst thing he could do is burden the team with longterm bad contracts - which the league is full of. I'd pay whatever Durant wanted, but I think that's a pipedream. I bet he signs a one year deal (or a longer-term deal with an opt-out) with OKC and then he and Westbrook go into free agency together next summer, possibly as a package deal. Not sure I'd go crazy over anyone else this year. It's nice Danny has the ability to sign players, but he has to make sure it's the right guys and stay patient if none are available. Keep his eyes on the prize.

Agreed jmost. I'd rather do nothing and go into the season with the same team plus draft picks then overspend on players on long bad contracts. I agree that I'd pay whatever to get Durant. I'd take Jimmy Butler on a longer contract but would rather stay the course than do something just to do something.
