Good thoughts!
-Our PG situation is better than i anticipated -Paul & Ricky are riding an early hot streak -Blount & Raef are nice on offense but as we all know they lack defensive presence, This will solve itself once Gomes, Big Al & Perk get more minutes.
4 games into the season & we could have won all of them, good sign. Plus, remember we still have that 5million trade exception that we can use.

We are improving and growing as a team. I think things will turn out all right once Doc settles on a 9 man rotation:
PP, RD, Del, Raef, Blunt, Jeff, Orien, Gomes, Perk
My only regret is that Tony Allen could be a forgotten man in all this.

Promising.
DAs big decisions are who to draft, who to trade.
Doc's big decision is to decide who to play. I don't see that being very well settled for maybe 20 games. Then, as we recall from Walter's odyssey as a C, a guy can push his way into the rotation at any time---especially if someone else is faltering.
Cs can win a lot of games with the kind of play Raef and Blount have given so far. Neither is a defensive demon. Yet I recall that Blount was thought of as playing Obie's defense rather well. Wish I could see some games. Wonder if their stats are an accurate indicator of how well they play defense. An integral part of rebounding is the box out. Sometime guys have roles of boxing out certain offensive players at all costs. That kind of positioning could amount to keeping the offensive player away to better enable another C to get the ball.
Something is working much better with the rebounding this y ear, and I suspect that t here is more involved than just telling guys to crash the board.

yeah, i have a thought. actually, it's more like a question. why the heck are toine and gp on our banner at the top of this page?
as far as constructive criticism, can the c's please NOT raise my blood pressure at the end of EVERY game. a 10 pt. win every now and then would be nice.

Dude, I totally know the feeling. When its always a close game, you get all tightened up and on the edge of your seat. It isn't a good feeling if it happens all the time. I never thought I would be this much of a fanatic for the celtics to the point that I sweat a lot and holler a lot whenever I watch really close games their. Maybe it happened for a reason that I dont get to see every celtics game on elague pass haha. I'd probably have a stroke in 3 weeks or so.

You know what your gonna get with Blount, a Center with one of the most reliable jump shots in the league with quick footwork. The downside are his stone hands & his poor rebounding skills. Defense is another concern, don't let his blocking numbers fool you. If you're a starting center & you finish the game with 0 fouls, you can't be defending your opponent very tightly. Blount is what he is, he's not going to change. He's not a disaster to have at Center but we won't be dominant inside as long as he's on this roster.

Defensively, I believe we have pride and are executing better - OP shooting lower % than us. Rotations are much better and there is much better pressure on the ball - opposing PG's not killing us (having career nights). Bloiunt needs to rebound BETTER !! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.....give us more Perkins ! There IS hustle.....
Offensively, we are a beauty to watch. WE have a dynamic duo that teams will be focusing on ( Fratello told his troops to stop Dynamic duo - PP & RD). Ball movement is a beauty ! Blount is consistent AND just look at PP's FG % - a whooping 56% ! Al is finding his groove again. The bench is starting to relax and come together - overcame 18 point deficit ! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....give us more Gomes (he finds a way to score).
We are certainly heading UP.....the Hill.
IT SURE WILL GET BETTER THAN THIS >>>

Hey guys, glad to be posting again. Well, I have watched all the games, including preseason, and these are my key thoughts:
1. This team will be a much improved rebounding team from the previous couple of seasons. I believe their dominance on the glass will continue throughout the year because the bench has a lot of active players on it, Raef is healthier, and all five positions are crashing the boards this year (see Delonte West).
2. Though the second unit still has yet to find a groove offensively, they will keep the Celts in games simply because of their defense. As the season goes on, they will probably turn into a better defensive unit than the starters. Justin Reed is an incredible defender, Perk and Al can both defend provided they stay out of foul trouble, and Ricky (who is also a key member of the second unit) can shut down any guard in the league.
3. This team is better now, at this point, than last years team was. Delonte is better at this stage than Gary Payton. Payton certainly was not the glove last season, and he also wasn't an uptempo point guard, and his shot was very suspect. Delonte can play full court defense, rebound, block shots(he has 8 in 4 games), and has a very good shot. Also, Blount is playing much better this year, which of course is a no brainer. He is scoring not only on jump shots, but also on post moves and dunks in transition. His passing is also very under rated.
4. Pierce looks like a new player. His passing (not just last night either), and unselfish play is the biggest reason the offense is clicking. If he continues like this, and Blount and Delonte keep it up, this team may win 50 games. Remember now, Doc hasn't even figured this team out yet.

Positives: + Every game the Celtics won, or were in to the very end. + Pierce - an all-star again. + West - his play has been solid. + Blount - definitely better than all expected.
Negatives: - P2, and R Davis minutes; too many for an 82 game duration. - Young guns not developing (or really playing) as much as all would hope. - Dickau & Scala: fillers.

I agree with everything y'all have said. This team has taken big strides since last year. Many, many, many postitive things we have going for us.
Many of you mentioned rebounding, and yes, our rebounding numbers have jumped up. This is not entirely based on better positioning from boxing out, but more to do with a lot of players aggressively going after rebounds. Delonte is a prime example. He's regularly coming up with long rebounds that normally would go back to the other team. Raef and Blount are also doing a better job of crashing the boards and getting their hands up near the backboard to swipe rebounds before they get a chance to come down.
Another thing is our offense. When we play in sync, there is no team who can stop our offense. Not with Pierce and Ricky killing them with jumpers and free throw shots, not with Blount killing teams with his midrange jumpers, not with Raef and Delonte hitting outside shots, and not with Jefferson pouring on the offense in a 5 minute spurt. There will be many times when we will have 35+ pts in a single quarter and break 110 pts in a game. When our offense is moving and the players are moving with it, its a thing of beauty. When guys are taking, and making shots in rhythm, it just seems so effortless, as in every shot we take is an automatic bucket.
We could be 4 - 0 right now, if we could have had defensive stops in the games we've lost. Because we foul a lot, and because we leave some open spots on the floor because of our defensive rotations, we allow teams to stick around and push us in the final minutes of the game. When we improve upon this (and I know we will), we will see us go on a long winning streak and beat some pretty strong teams.
For instance, if we play to the level we are capable of playing (as in playing a perfect game), we can beat the Spurs tomorrow night.

On the negative part, this goes towards Blount and Raef like it does to Pierce and Ricky. Raef and Blount aren't going anywhere for awhile so Perkins and Jefferson won't see the starting lineup for another 2 years perhaps. The same goes for Gerald Green + Allen if he doesn't get traded backing up Ricky and Pierce. Gomes may not benefit either from backing up Pierce or Ricky seeing they get too many minutes. Even as a 6th man , Ricky got a lot of minutes. Kiss Orien Greene goodbye after 1 year. West has the pg slot and Dickau is in front of Greene now.
