Danny is trying to get up into the high lottery, possibly 3 (the Philly's pick), maybe 4 (Knicks), potentially 8 (Kings).
But do we realistically have enough assets to get it done?
From what it sounds like, in addition to the picks we can offer, teams want more than just picks. They want players as well, most likely talented young players.
So we are dangling Marcus Smart, who appears to be our greatest poker chip.
I don't know, I mean, Smart is nice, but I don't think teams are slobbering over him. If he's our most valuable trading chip, it doesn't look like we're going to get the [HASH]3 or [HASH]4 pick. Possibly the 8th from the Kings.

I think we do, but the asking price may be too high. Espeically if they want Smart and multiple future 1st rounders.

If I have the 3rd or 4th pick, and someone offers me Smart and draft picks that are most likely mid 1st round picks (though there's the chance that the Brooklyn picks end up gold), I'm not getting excited. I'll be listening, but I'll be waiting for something better to come along.

I'm curious to know if Danny is the one dangling Smart, or if teams are the ones asking for Smart.

I like Smart though last season was a little disappointment. I think we here in Boston over value him, I bet it's us dangeling him

Yeah, fans do overate their own.
I used to be big on Jiri Welsch.
Smart is nice, plays good defense, is a leader, but I'm not sold on his PG skills, his playmaking ability, or his 3pt shooting.

DM if I remember correctly you were never sold on Smarts PG skills when we drafted him. I was, I think you were right. I love his defense though and he's still a guy I want on this team

Yeah, I was critical of Smart's PG skills then, and nothing he did this year leads me to think he has potential to a great PG. So many of his passes are at teammates' feet, or out of their catching zone, and it doesn't lead them directly into their shooting form.
I still say he's more of an athlete than a basketball player.
In all honesty, I'd keep him because of his intangibles (he's a great leader and role model) and because Brad can probably make it work even without a true PG.
But if a trade comes up that makes sense, I'm ok with parting with Smart.
