Golden State is going to need to clear some cap room to sign Green to a long term deal. The best way for them to clear cap space is to move little used David Lee. Next year Lee will be going into his final year of his contract at 15 million. The reason I'm interested in a deal for Lee is because I don't really think there are any "star" free agents that are going to come to Boston this offseason so we would have the cap space. Boston could absorb Lee's contract with the caveat of GS throwing in Harrison Barnes.
Barnes is 6'8" and plays both forward positions. Barnes is overshadowed in GS he could come to Boston and really blossom. Getting Lee would also open up the possibility of moving Sully or KO, preferably Sully. What do you guys think? I don't see Lee as a major drop off from either Bass or Sully, Barnes is a nice young talent.

If we can't get anyone decent to take our cap space, I'd gladly work out a deal for Lee and then attack free agency in 2016. I don't think we could get GS to give up Barnes, but I bet they'd cough up their 2019 first rounder.

I agree that the market this year for free agents is weak, and/or I think the target free agents will resign with their teams. However, David Lee is a liability on defense.

It's being reported GS is working with Lee to trade him. GS may be willing to give up their 2015 1st round pick. Is that enough? Lee has never been a problem on the offensive end it's the whole defense thing that has been the knock on him. Lee plays mostly PF it would give the Celtics the opportunity to move either Sully or KO. That GS pick could really give us some options when it comes to moving up in this years draft

They have alot of high priced veterans with younger, better players that they have to fit.

As an owner I'd be like "Wait. Why am I paying 15million for a draft pick? Did it cost that much when we bought the Rondo draft pick?"
Personally I think it's to the Celts advantage to let Dray Green hit the free agent market. Let GS sweat. Their draft picks should all be very late for a few years. If Dray hits free agency it puts dominoes into motion that can help us. Taking David Lee off their hands does very little for us.

Get a solid vet for a year, get a future pick (prolly have to be 2019 b/c GS still owes Utah some picks), and then reattack the free agent market next year.

It's a popular misconception that we bought that 2006 pick to get Rondo. We actually traded a 2007 first rounder for it: www.nba.com/celtics/news/draft-central/press062806-draft-rondo.htmlAs for GS, their really is nothing for them to sweat. Green is a restricted free agent. They'll match any offer he gets. There are so many teams with cap room they'll have no problem moving Green. Thankfully, it sounds like GS wants to do right by Lee, so they'll try find a decent team that would be a good fit for him. Good chance Boston would be high on that list. Unlike teams like Philly, Boston is not godawful, and we have a need for bigs.

Yup. We took BGrant's contract as well. PHX's cheapskate owner was looking to slough off as much salary as he could.

Yup.
It also hurt to give Quinten Richardson that contract the same year they got Nash. I dont know the deals, but if they hadnt spent on him, maybe Sarver couldve been convinced to resign Joe Johnson?

Sounds like Lee is coming to Boston. Straight up for Wallace. I like the move.

Yup, good move. I don't see how anyone can complain about this trade.
We traded Gerald Wallace away (who we don't play at all) for David Lee, who is going to play lots of minutes, and is the best big man on our roster right now.
Ainge is doing the smart thing, and he's not done yet.
Next season we're going to try and lure a big free agent. This summer, no big named free agent wanted to come here cause we're nowhere near competing for a title.
By getting Lee, and I know more trade upgrades are coming, we're going to be an improved team, which should help us draw more attention next summer.

Lee for Wallace is an excellent deal. Wallace was a true professional, but was not going to play.
