Knowing what you know about him now, would you sign him back as a free agent? Even as a backup PG?
Or how crazy is this (a sign of how far the might has fallen) -- would you trade Jae Crowder straight up for Rondo if Mark Cuban calls you right now?

In my unimaginative world both guys are free agents so it's a weird trade.
The only way I bring him back is if he professes his undying love and dedication to doing everything Brad Stevens says the second he says it, the way he says it, to the level he says it, and agrees to work on his shooting tirelessly.
In that case if I could move Smart for one of the top two picks in the draft or a spectacular rookie or 2nd year player (like Wiggins) I'd do it. Otherwise no.

Or maybe move Avery for something very helpful. That's it. Avery for a legit starting big man that is on a good contract like....idk...Robin Lopez. Move Smart to sg and give him a year to learn it. Maybe I do that. Maybe

And it also has to be a good contract.

No, I wouldn't want him back. He has let his ego get to him. I'd rather a young I don't think he fits with this team any more.

Yes, however there has to be another star player with him. Example - Kevin Love.

I never say never, but I would definitely be leaning towards "no." I think that ship has sailed. It's pretty telling by how much better we played after he left.

I agree with fresh. There were a bunch of reasons we got better, but they were all linked to the Rondo trade essentially. No way Smart shows the progress he did with Rondo around. Getting guys with chips on their shoulders like Crowder was great. Young guys not having to defer to Rondo helped. The team was a little bit better shooting team when he left.

I wouldn't bring him back. The last 3 years in a row our winning percentage was better without him than with him. He just holds the ball too much and it would hurt the rhythm that our team has been developing. And I can't see him and IT co-exist. Plus his admission of not playing defense for his last two years hear officially wears out his welcome.

Rondo does not fit the current team, because of his style of play. Rondo's game is geared towards veteran players that can make jump shots, and BOS currently lacks those type of players, with the exception of IT.
