Every year, some players will consistently be high on mock draft rankings, and you can't understand why. You wonder what these draft experts are seeing that you aren't.
Who are this year's highly ranked players you would avoid drafting in the lottery portion of the draft?
For me, it's Kevon Looney and Kelly Oubre. If we have a lottery pick, I'm hoping we use the pick on someone else.
Looney is too slow to be a 3, and not built to be a 4. I think physically he's similar to JJ Hickson, but JJ was way more explosive. If there's one glimmer of hope in my mind for Looney, it's that he could evolve into a Tayshaun Prince like player -- a versatile but extremely awkward looking player.
Oubre has size and slightly above average athleticism, but I am not excited about anything else. I was critical of James Young last year, but at least I liked his shooting form and had confidence in his shooting ability (which were the only positives I saw in him at Kentucky). I don't care much for Oubre's shooting form (especially watching him shoot FT's) and I don't feel he'll be a good 3 point shooter like Young.

I haven't paid much attention yet, but I can't believe how high some mocks have WCS. Maybe I am overrated this draft class, or underrating WCS, but I just don't see him as a good pick in the 5-8 range.

What changed my perception about WCS is our need (which is not the way we should be drafting, I know). We need a rim protector, and a guy who can cover lots of ground, and a good pick and roll defender. Cauley-Stein ain't a lot of things, but he can do these things.
We all know championship are won with defense, and we are aiming to build a defensive culture under Brad Stevens. WCS might be a good fit in this regard.
Not much offense from him, but his defense is what we'll be drafting him for.
So if we are picking between 5 - 8, or more likely 7 - 10, I'd be ok with that.
