Well I hope you are at least reading the Summer Quandaries over on the CelticsGreen blogspot. Can't tell, seem to have lost your voice there also. I have a hard time explaining the dearth of activity--NFL only in training camp, Red Sox already moving best parts for future options, too darn hot for frozen ice for hockey, and the college seasons are in layaway. What the heck are you guys doing for your sports fixes, or are cheerleader tryouts enough to occupy your minds ;>) Yes indeed these are the dog days of summer; but hey, on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog.

This happens every summer it seems. August and September is definitely a dead zone on here. That said, we need to do something to drum up some interest in this place or I worry it's gonna be a ghost town eventually. We have lost some of our regulars, and we have not had nearly enough new blood show up to replace them. Thankfully we got KVal and nateval this year or this place would've been awfully quiet at times.
Anyone got any idea how to drum up interest in our beloved Celticsgreen?

OK, I am really bad.

Lee has been posting some awesome thought provoking articles on Celtics Green. You guys should definitely go over and check them out and post your thoughts on them on the blog.
I really don't have much of an excuse for posting less here. It's more of a busy thing than anything else. I just got a new rescue dog and she's been taking up more of my time. I also have less time at the computer due to medical problems. Hopefully I can get back to posting more regularly.
I think part of it is that there just isn't as much to talk about in the summer.

We aren't the only nba place where this happens. I have done everything I can think of. The only other thing I can think of is if we have a twitter. Some people like it more.

I think our board has a core group of posters. Small, but as insightful as other larger boards.

I think our board has a core group of posters. Small, but as insightful as other larger boards. I agree with this. One of the advantages of this place is that if you say something you'll be heard and all the posters are dedicated. You don't get thread after thread after thread after thread of the exact same idea (many of which are incredibly bad). "Let's trade Rondo to the Kings". "Let's offer Jeff Green for Kevin Love" I would much rather follow a discussion with CF, Fresh, DM, Roadie, Kval, Thirstyboots, and FL than a thread with a hundred posters, 65 of which have no idea what they are talking about

Not to be trivial or disrespectful,, but find something provoking to think/talk about. I just put up a piece on the need to widen the court and responded to a comment about raising the height of the goal:
Anon, In previous years I've written at length about raising the baskets. I share your disdain for the skill of pushing the ball through a relatively large opening, when the required jump is maybe 18 inches, often less.
I could never solve how to introduce the higher goal--I certainly don't favor having 8-yr-olds heaving the ball to absurd heights. I coached for several years in youth leagues where the 1st & 2nd graders shot at an 8' goal and they were still fighting to get it high enough. It led to a lot of very poor form shooting, habits that were difficult but absolutely necessary to change if they were to continue in basketball. Although after than they went to 10' goals, I would have favored a more gradual progression--perhaps 9' for 3rd and 4th graders and 10 thereafter. Those same articles wrestled with the negative results of the 3-pt line/shot on young players trying to learn to shoot. I'd love to disallow the 3-pt bonus point until after high school.
Shooting form is both important and difficult to establish as a habit. Just as 10' is impossibly high for a 7-yr-old, the "low" goal is almost silly for the pros. Where do you go from 10 to 11 or 12? Shooting is so much an ingrained stroke that it is hard to see where introducing a change in goal height can be implemented without fracturing the learning process.
Ideas?

It's in an intriguing idea, but I don't think raising the hoop would help the game. It's not like the game is too offensive right now. Scoring is still way down compared to the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I think if any rule changes are made, it should be one of two (or both) things:
1) Bring back the illegal defense charge aka outlaw zone defense.
2) widen the court.
Sure, the NBA still doesn't allow full zone defense, but with the athleticism and length of today's players, they pretty much can do whatever they want on D. Guys like KG are pretty much playing zone D on every defensive set. This has pretty much erased post play from the NBA game because teams can ghost a guy as soon as he touches the ball without any worry of getting called for illegal defense. That needs to change imo.
Widening the court would be another way to bring post offense back as a viable offensive option. Today's defenders can sag off the guy sitting in the corner to help defend the paint, and if the ball is kicked out to the corner todays premier defenders can recover in time to contest that corner 3. Widen the court by about eight feet and that means that the corner three is four feet further back, and that is an extra step the defender has to take to get back to his man. That may not seem like much but an extra step is often the difference between an open look and a challenged jumpshot.
