sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2204385According to ESPN Milwaukee will send swingman Desmond Mason, its 2006 first-round pick and cash considerations to the Hornets for Magloire, an East All-Star in 2004. What the hell is this? Why couldn't we make a trade like that? I know Desmond Mason gets 17 ppg and Magloire only gets 11, but you're telling me we couldn't do something like this to help ourselves? if I were the Cs I'd call the Bucks right now and ask if they are still interested in Andrew Bogut since they traded a 17ppg guy for an 11ppg that was hurt and see what they say. Then make a list of comparable guys and try to get one for something like this. a 2nd rnder and TA for Nene.

This trade doesn't really make sense for the Hornets. The Hornets don't need Desmond Mason because they already have JR Smith at SG and he's likely their future player there. Mason doesn't have the size to play SF. They'll probably get a pretty high draft pick because the Bucks aren't going to be a playoff team this year. But you can't guarantee that a high draft pick will equate to a player better than Jamaal Magloire.
As for Milwaukee, it makes more sense for them to make this trade because they now have a pretty good combination at the 4 and 5. Bogut is the real deal and now he'll have an All-Star caliber Center playing next to him. Plus too, Milwaukee acquired Bobby Simmons in the offseason and he'll make a good pair with Michael Redd. Desmond Mason became expendable because of Simmons.
Oh well, I guess we missed out on that one.

I guess they think Joe Smith is a backup and I don't blame them. Plus they have Jiri Welch to take over for Desmond

C - Maglore PF - Bogut SF - Simmon SG - Redd PG - Ford
One hell of a starting lineup they have over there.

Yep, I like TJ Ford a lot. He's a real floor general. They've got themselves a pretty good looking starting 5 once the players start meshing.

I think Smith will start at PF and Bogut will come off of the bench, at least at the beginning of the year. Good trade for the bucks.

Unfortunately, the Bucks are 1 injury from a lottery team. W/the line-up shown, chances are Bucks = lottery.

Can we trade with them to move up in the draft, after this season? Does DA sign Banks - like he said he would? Cheap 4th year guy to package in a trade, or be the #3 PG, rater than DD.
We might find Dan a nice, late game, shooter.

when i first read about the trade i was stunned. gm of the hornets must be a moron. milwaukee definitely stole this one, although i think that magloire is overrated. the bucks seem good but i doubt they'll make play-offs. and i laso expect bogut to come off the bench now

If they can stay reasonably healthy, I think that they should be able to make the play-offs. This trade doesnt help our chances of making the play-offs. Another boder-line play-off team improves themselves. Not that Id be heart-broken if we didnt make the play-offs.

I don't think we could have gotten Magloire because, other than Davis or Pierce, we have no swingmen with a 17 ppg averge and a career 12.9 ppg average to trade, especially on still in his twenties. Plus they are no lock to make the playoffs, so Milwaukee also threw in a probable lottery pick, so it's not like the Bucks got Magloire for nothing.
BTW, I read that the Milwaukee coach plans on starting Magliore and Joe Smith, with Bogut coming off the bench.

I guess I'm the lone one standing on Bogut being the starting Center. If he's not the opening day starter, I expect him to be in the near future.

I could see him being the starter. If I am the coach looking at that roster I'd probably start him at least at first. I might make him a 6th man or maybe see if Joe Smith can play some sf for a big lineup

He's got the best combination of size, quickness, skills, and smarts. I even think Bogut is ready to play now. But time will tell.

Magloire is a glorfied Rony Selikaly. Magloire averaged 10 & 10, and is an all-star in 2004. Why? The "position" rule. Aka - C. Magloire is good, but no all-star.
