Always good to have you back, BleedGreen. Good to hear you got out safely.
Esco, do you think Orien Greene resembles Kidd in the way he plays? Of course he'll never be as good as Kidd (one of my all time favorite players), but it is possible to resemble a player and not be as good as they are.

I know it's easy to get excited about new guys, but we need to hold back on proclaiming Orien Greene a starter yet. I think people are so excited about him because there was no expectation coming in. If a guy, who is drafted 53rd in the draft even makes the team, there is reason to be happy. If he can actually play, it's even more of a bonus. However, just because he seems to be making an impact now, lets not get too excited until at least Decemeber and he is actually contributing in real games.

Gblood- The way things have gone with the PGs so far, it's easy to jump on the bandwagon with OGreene. He sure has NBA size and from what we hear NBA defense. That's a nice start. I understand where you're coming from, it's hard to not get excited about the kid.

GreenBlood, looks like we fans are not the only ones getting excited about Orien Greene:
The daily dose of praise for rookie point guard Orien Greene continued: ``He knows how to play,'' Rivers said. ``He's a point guard. He's a pure point guard. He's probably our best single player in the open court. He rarely makes a bad decision.
Running the fast break proficiently is all about knowing the game of basketball, knowing how to set up players, and having the timing to deliver passes at the right time. Fast breaks allow a player to show his creativity and you can tell which PG has court vision and which ones don't by how well they run the break. Its very encouraging that Orien is our best player in the open court.
Running a team efficiently in the halfcourt set is a bit different. It requires more of knowing your teammates, knowing their tendencies, and executing plays. This is Orien's next step.
Orien could win the starting spot sometime in his rookie season, though not necessarily because he's that good. It could just be because Delonte and Dickau haven't been able to step up theri games.

I agree with greenblood. I understand the excitement, but let's not get carried away. He hasn't even played in an actual regular season NBA game yet. He looks like an intriguing prospect, sure, but let him prove himself first before we put all of these expectations on him.
Now having said that, to answer derren’s question about him playing like Kidd. I think he has the Kidd mentality, which is pass first, pass second, shoot third. (Donny Marshall actually said that.) He knows how to run the break very well. He does make difficult passes look very easy, especially on the break ala Kidd. He plays stellar defense for such a big guy (6’4”, 200lbs) and he knows how to stay in front of his man. He is very athletic as well. He still needs to work on his shooting a lot though.
In a nutshell, he has the Kidd mentality. I will say that. It seems from watching him that every time he touches the ball, he does look to pass to someone else. It looked like the other players on the C’s were enjoying playing with him, because they were expecting the ball every time O Greene touched it. He still has eons to go before he is mentioned as being as good as Kidd, but he does have a similar playing style, to answer derren’s question.

Right on, Esco. And players are more willing to make cuts and run hard to get open if they know the PG will look to pass the ball to the open player.
